The Kip Keino Classic in May 2022 was set to be the stage where Sha’Carri Richardson, the bold and electrifying sprinter, would finally make her season debut. Even more tantalizing was the prospect of her facing off against the reigning world champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. But as the event unfolded, Richardson was nowhere to be seen. Questions swirled. Was it an injury? Was it a strategy? Had something gone wrong behind the scenes? A week later, the answers arrived. Richardson shared that she was still in the process of “healing”—not from a physical setback, but from the wounds of an abusive relationship.
Then came another voice—Janeek Brown, the former hurdler and the woman at the heart of Richardson’s revelation. In an Instagram Live session, Brown admitted to being abusive. “I was abusive once that there’s physical evidence of,” she confessed. “And we moved on, and even after then I was trying to move on from that.” While Brown’s path forward remains unclear, Richardson has found her stride again with Christian Coleman, a fellow sprinter, by her side.
Richardson made headlines during Super Bowl LIX for a few reasons. Not only she was featured in a Nike commercial, but she also attended the big game with Coleman, formally confirming their relationship. The rumors of their relationship began last spring when they were spotted together at a track meet in Jamaica. The couple was then seen together at the Paris Olympics, attending Team USA’s gold medal game against France, and were seen leaving the venue together. Since then, the lovebirds have even flaunted their signs of love publicly. For instance, just consider their social media shares on this year’s Valentine’s Day and now we have another special moment shared by Richardson.

Richardson and Coleman have been observed supporting each other ever since they have been linked together. In 2023, after Sha’Carri Richardson led the women’s team to a 4x100m relay victory at the 2023 World Championships, she was seen lifted in Coleman’s arms on the track. At the Paris Olympics, while Richardson won silver in the 100m event and gold in the 4x100m relay, Coleman had to head home empty-handed. But Richardson was quick to throw her support behind her boyfriend sharing a photo of him training in the rain with the caption, “His story is history” with crossed fingers and infinity emoji.
The couple recently attended a Kat Williams show on Valentine’s Day and Coleman recorded a video of Williams’s shoutout to his girlfriend. Coleman shared the video on his Instagram story, cementing his relationship with the sprinter with the caption, “My Valentine done took over the Katt Williams show. @itsshacarri” followed by laughing emojis. This support and love might have felt like a breath of fresh air for Richardson after having to deal with a tough relationship.
In May 2022, Sha’Carri Richardson took to her Instagram stories to let the world know about her past relationship and the abuse that came with it. She wrote, “I was in a relationship with a Jamaican athlete that never cared about me from jump. I was abused and stole from yet protected her from the judgment of her country and family while they dragged me. I had to deal with [homophobia] and so much more that I’m still healing from.”

And about two years later, things are starting to look up for Richardson. She now seems to be happy in her relationship with Coleman. Several pieces of evidence supporting this fact have emerged in recent weeks.
