ATHLOS is getting even bigger this time. Trying to address the low payment in athletics, Alexis Ohanian decided to start his own league of track and field. Last year, he roped in Gabby Thomas to spearhead track, the event was a colossal success. Providing women a suitable platform to showcase their incredible talents and get paid deservingly, ATHLOS is now making more noise than ever. In their recent announcement, ATHLOS dropped a massive update. They are now bringing the ‘Field’ into their track and field venture. And quite aptly, this time, the poster girl for the same will be none other than Tara Davis-Woodhall.
In their recent Instagram post, ATHLOS put out a video of Davis-Woodhall along with the caption, “It’s Track AND Field, and she’s the reason. Field is coming to ATHLOS 2025, and Tara Davis-Woodhall is leading the way.” Surely, it is quite evident from the caption that ATHLOS is giving Davis-Woodhall the spotlight she so rightly deserves. After all, her Olympic triumph was nothing short of a fairytale. She cleared a mind-blowing 7.10m to dethrone Malaika Mihambo who secured silver. The Athlos honor, is indeed the respect Davis-Woodhall and field events are entitled to.
And this was not all. There was also a video along with it that revealed the look of Davis-Woodhall for ATHLOS. The narrative of the video showed the iron-clad grit and determination of the Olympic gold medalist. “There was a time I almost quit this sport and left everything I worked for behind. But then I remembered that would be giving you the easy way out,” Davis-Woodhall could be heard saying in the video. Of Course, this was a nod to when Davis-Woodhall suffered from depression and mental complications.

Back in the early days of her career, Davis-Woodhall struggled with body image issues. She even found it hard to participate in big races. All these added up and created a significant impact on her mental well-being. Thankfully, showing a champion’s mindset, Davis-Woodhall fought through her hurdles and showed the world the champion that she really was. Meanwhile, Tara Davis-Woodhall’s coming to ATHLOS has a greater significance. It was not long before that Davis-Woodhall had a fallout with Michael Johnson and Grand Slam Track. And the biggest competitor of GST? Well, it’s ATHLOS NYC!
When Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall boldly called out Michael Johnson’s initiative
Tara Davis-Woodhall never asked for a savior. Yet when Michael Johnson unveiled his Grand Slam Track idea—one that boldly carved out field events—she didn’t hesitate to fight back. And now, as Johnson’s vision finally came to life in Kingston, Jamaica, her frustrations have only deepened, amplified by her husband Hunter Woodhall’s sharp public jab.

Davis-Woodhall’s concerns weren’t whispers. Rather they were roars. In a pointed video months earlier, she addressed Johnson directly, declaring, “You are ruining the sport if you are trying to save just track… it’s track and field for a reason!” Her frustration was rooted in more than pride—it was about identity. A long jumper who has spent years soaring and landing with precision, Tara refused to watch her side of the sport fade into the background. Hunter, standing firmly beside her, didn’t mince words either. Slamming Johnson’s motives, he added, “Stop coming back and just being so self-important and just saying wild things to just get a rise out of people.”
As Grand Slam Track’s opening event saw wide stretches of empty seats despite the heavy pre-launch buzz, Hunter took to Instagram, sharing a video with a sarcastic caption, “Thank goodness he’s ‘saving’ track.” Though he later deleted the post, the message couldn’t have been louder.
