Quincy Wilson had a shaky start this season, first missing the number 1 sport in the Virginia Showcase and then falling 600m short of his usual standards in the Millrose games. But all is not lost yet—his favorite competition is returning. The 2025 New Balance Nationals Indoor track & field championships are returning to Boston from March 13th, 2025, and will go on until the 16th. The 17-year-old is all set to once again run for the gold when he steps on the track. In the lead up to even, an interesting question arises—where is the ceiling for the Olympian?
“The Sky is the limit,” said the Maryland native in a recent interview with Citius Mag. The 400m runner who has been the subject of a lot of doubts from the onlookers said the following, “Don’t put limits on yourself. I mean, there’s a lot of people that have said, like, ‘I couldn’t go to the Olympics as a 16 year old. I couldn’t run through the rounds. I couldn’t do this.'”
He added, “Just having your own mindset and saying what you want to do, I think, is the most important thing because you’re the only one that can go out there and control it. So just focus on what you can do and just hope that they all work out and pray for you.” Exactly like he did, not only qualifying for the Olympics at 16 but also winning Golde. Not to mention he is also a three-time national champion.

In March 2023, the Olympic gold medalist claimed the New Balance Nationals indoor 400-meter title in Boston with 46.67 seconds and then defended it in with a national record of 45.76 seconds in the 400-meter. Now, as the 2025 season closes in, he says,“This could be my third indoor title coming in as a junior and that’s amazing.” He has the potential for the hat-trick and his mentality is just the cherry on top.

“If you know me as a competitor, I’m ready to compete against anybody.” The Pairs gold medalist has a lot of fire in him both on and off the track. And it comes to competition, he had no friends on the track.

There are no friends for Quincy Wilson on the track
The Maryland athlete is looking for targets in the indoor nationals but he does have one condition, citing “I would have a target on somebody if somebody else has got a gold medal.” Now, that is some serious level raising-the-bar but that’s how Wilson is—very competitive, very fearless, very above-and-beyond.
He continued, “It’s a lot of limits that I broke that people have seen in the past, and now people are going to go out there and try to do it.” Yup, once the record breaker, now the record holder, the Olympian is setting the standards now, and he shows no mercy. He further said, “When I step on the track, everybody’s not my friend.” No friends when racing for Quincy—you can’t really argue with that mentality, especially when we’re talking results.

In the 2024 season, he nearly broke the national high school record in the 500-meter with 1:01.27 at the VA Showcase in the very first month of the year; what followed was multiple marks in February, including the second-fastest all-time high school boys’ 600-meter at 1:17.36 at the Millrose Games. Then there was the national championship and the Summer Olympics—number 1 and gold.
So far, in the 2025 season, he has had a few setbacks; the Nationals could be a way for him to come back. What do you think? Is Quincy Wilson defending his national title this year?
