Gabby Thomas is reining the tracks once again. But this time, she might be having a personal agenda behind it. Coming into the Grand Slam Track, Thomas must obviously be aiming for a victory. But not just one, rather multiple! Well, in GST, a win in a ‘race group’ would signify a hefty cash prize of $100,000. Thankfully, she has already secured the win in the first of the two events of her race group (200m and 400m). But she is not yet fully done. While the first-place finish already took her a step closer to a win of $100k, Thomas might also be aiming for the title of ‘Women’s Racer of the Year. ’ And if she grabs the $100k more per annum, it might take the prize pool to a massive amount of $500k for Thomas, taking into consideration the four slams of GST. Determined to do well in the future, Thomas blushed as something personal came midway through her 200m celebration!
On the opening day of GST in Kingston, the Jamaican audience was disappointed. With the stadium lacking energy, things sprung into life, courtesy of Gabby Thomas. Making her debut in the 200m category, Thomas looked like a bolt from the blue. Right after the gun was fired, Thomas exploded from the blocks. By the time she reached the midway curve, Thomas looked like she was in cruise control. Enjoying a healthy lead, Thomas stormed to win the race with a time of 22.62.
Quite expectedly, she was pretty much excited to get things done properly. Expressing her elation, Thomas praised the GST initiative. She also stated how racking up that first victory felt utterly satisfying. However, amidst all these, the interviewer slipped in a playful query for Thomas. She asked whether a part of the winning money would be utilized to fund Thomas’ wedding. After all, the Olympic gold medalist did get engaged recently. Blushing at the question, a smiling Thomas answered, “The prize pot here at the Grand Slam is obviously the biggest in our sport. So definitely, definitely really excited to come away with a win at the 200m.” While Thomas did not answer the question definitively, her expression, along with the way she flaunted her engagement ring, were enough signs.

Moving on, Thomas also talked about how the 12 points that she garnered would help her a lot in the long term. With the 400m event coming up next for her, Thomas stated that she would be carrying some significant confidence forward. “I feel like I’m a really good competitor. They’re going to challenge me, and I’m going to challenge them back,” reflected a beaming Thomas. She concluded her statement by wishing her compatriots all the best and hoped that the best one would win.

Receiving a surprise, Gabby Thomas just added a sparkling new title to her name
The three-time Olympic gold medalist, fresh off her Paris 2024 domination, was swept off her feet by longtime partner Spencer McManes on March 25. How? The couple’s bond, which began with a shared love of pizza and flourished through the highs and lows of elite sport, has been anything but ordinary. McManes, a former Yale football player and now founder of non-alcoholic seltzer brand Kaviva, has stood firmly in her corner—cheering her from the stands in Paris in a “Team Gabby” shirt and even sending her $50 when she broke a nail before the big moment. “Last season helped us solidify our relationship and work really well as a team through the ups and downs,” he said.
Now, engagement ring in tow, Gabby is back in competitive mode! After her run in the Texas Relays in Austin on March 29, she is now looking to make waves at Grand Slam Track in Kingston.
