The SEC Indoor Championships are called a powerhouse of stars for a reason. And this weekend, that became more apparent than ever. The men’s 60m event was nothing short of electric, with athletes putting on their A-games. But there was one boy, so good that he left everyone in the dust. Fast. Confident. Multitalented. He’s got it all. So much so that the 19-year-old has now nearly matched two American Olympians, one of which is the world’s fastest man, Noah Lyles. Sounds too good to be true? Well, it isn’t!

We’re talking about none other than the Arkansas Wide receiver, Jordan Anthony. Yes, ‘wide receiver’ because he is a college football player, too! So, if you haven’t heard his name before, better get used to it, because the Razorback just sped past a World U20 Record holder in the SEC men’s 60m finals at the R.A. ‘Murray’ Fasken ’38 Indoor Track & Field facility this weekend. After Israel Okon etched a record time in his semifinals heat, he advanced to the final, where Anthony still brushed him off for the SEC title like it was nothing. If your jaw hasn’t dropped yet, now it will.

On March 3, track and field brand director Rob analyzed Anthony’s title-winning performance in a YouTube video. Interestingly, while the rest of us were in awe, Rob? He wasn’t surprised at Anthony’s performance– the Mississippi native has been proving himself for years. Rob said, “He [Jordan Anthony] is now a junior and a football player, but it shouldn’t be a shock that he won this event if you realize that he was as a freshman at the NCAA championships and got the silver medal in that same event.” Yes, even 2 years back, at the 2023 NCAA Champs in Albuquerque, Anthony was already running 6.55s, which shows his consistency.

However, if you are still not convinced, what is the big deal about his time? Just think that Jordan Anthony got surprisingly close to some of the biggest names in the sprinting world, like Noah Lyles, Ronnie Baker, etc. Coach Rob said, “If you don’t understand how fast the men 60m Dash was at the SEC meet, just consider that the two fastest professional runners in the 60m dash this year indoors were Ronnie Baker and Noah Lyles. Both men are American and both men are Olympians. They ran 6.50 and 6.52 seconds as their season best performances.” But here comes the real shock. 6.55s isn’t even Anthony’s personal 60m best! That would be 6.54s. He achieved this incredible feat at the prelims of the 2023 NCAA championships. His personal best just places him 0.02 and 0.04 seconds away from the two mega Olympians!

This SEC title win changes a lot. It flipped the dynamic in Anthony’s favor, and thus, Rob, who has forever recognized his potential, demanded that EA Sports change his rank based on this real-life match. “I sincerely hope that somebody from EA Sports is watching this video because it is a crime that Jordan Anthony is not a 99 overall speed rating in college football 25. But maybe they’ll correct it when they release the next game after this victory,” he said. Well, last College Football season, Anthony finished with 8 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. But now, the Brand Director demands his yearly ranking to be updated, inclusive of this win.

That may be quite possible, given the EA releases regular updates to player ratings throughout the season to reflect changes in their real-time form. So, clearly, this SEC title winner is here, and he is here to make waves. After all, not every day does a teen come so close to beating Noah Lyles’ time. But the best part? His two career tracks. Here’s a glimpse at his loaded resume!

Is Jordan Anthony the next big thing in track, or should he focus solely on football?

Jordan Anthony can do a lot than just match Noah Lyles’ time

Well as we mentioned earlier, Jordan Anthony is a multisport star. You can find him speeding past runners on the track and acing moves on the football field both. When it comes to track and field, you can find him dabbling with the 60m, 200m, and 4x400m relay events a lot more frequently these days. But back in 2023, there were event field options like long jump in the list.

On the other hand, speaking of his college football career, the sophomore started with the Kentucky Wildcats for his first season. He then transferred to the Aggies for a year and is currently making headway with the Razorbacks. He currently averages at 13.9 and, by the looks of it, has a solid football career ahead of him too. But it’s not every day that an athlete nearly matches two professionals. Thus, it may be so that Jordan can get a lot better in track if he focuses on it more in the coming days. What do you think?
