Teen prodigy Quincy Wilson is redefining the limits of track and field. With each race, he doesn’t just win. He dominates, shattering records and leaving fans in awe. But just like every athlete, he also has his bad days. While the prodigy dominated the NB Grand Prix, the same high didn’t follow him to the Millrose Games on the 8th. But where did he place? Runner-up? Top 3? Nope.
While he did end up in the top 5 finish, number 4 isn’t something the Bullis Native will accept. But one American legend had his back. American Sanya Richards Ross was in conversation with analyst and announcer Paul Swangaard for NBC while they were discussing Quincy Wilson. But as Swangaard asked in a Peacock Livestream, what is so impressive about Wilson? And interestingly, she has all the good things about the young track sensation.
It all happened before he could perform in the Millrose Games. While his time of 1:16:20 wasn’t bad by any means for 600, this wasn’t just his day. But what did the veteran have to say about the gold medalist? Ross said, “Besides the fact that every time he steps on the track, there’s absolute fireworks, he’s breaking records—whether it’s high school records or age group records.”

This is a very appropriate description since at the 2025 NB GP he was anything but sublime. Against powerhouses like Will Summer, Zakithi Nene, and Jereem Richards, he didn’t seem to have much chance of winning. But against all odds, he finished 400 m as the winner. He also broke his own US high school record with a record time of 45.66. Perhaps this is just another day for the Paris Olympian, but fans and the track and field community all know the significance of this moment.

Sanya Richards-Ross also feels Quincy Wilson possesses a unique, special quality that makes him stand out from others. She further added, “I also think he had that it factor. He had that support system. He’s far more mature and poised beyond his 17 years.” One can easily observe Quincy Wilson’s maturity and poise through his interviews. His prose and nuance are astounding for his age.
But again, if his talk with Citius Mag had any hints, Wilson is much more than we give him credit for. From winning in the Olympics to somehow juggling his school is truly inspiring. Ross also said, “I am super excited to see what this young man is going to do in the future.”
Just like Ross, we as fans of track and field are also looking forward to what Quincy Wilson has in his future endeavors. If Millrose couldn’t work for him, he would surely have learned from his mistake.
Quincy Wilson’s meteoric rise: Strength, speed, and an unstoppable mindset
Quincy Wilson is not just breaking records—he’s redefining what’s possible for a high school sprinter. Just last week in Boston, he pulled away effortlessly at the end of a 400-meter race, proving his raw strength and endurance.
