Despite Michael Phelps retiring after the 2016 Rio Olympics, the US swimming team is in safe hands with Caeleb Dressel. The 24-year-old swimmer is expected to win seven gold medals at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Notably, the Men’s US swimming team won the gold medal for the 4 ? 100-meter freestyle event and landed the gold medal. But in an act that demands the utmost respect, Caeleb Dressel became a team player and gave his medal out to Brooks Curry, who swam in the preliminary round. Dressel’s gesture was well-received by fans all over the world.

Caeleb Dressel gives medal to Brooks Curry

Moreover, it has been a good time for Brooks Curry as he became the first swimmer from LSU (Louisiana State University) to qualify for the Olympics. Moreover, Curry took part in the preliminary round instead of Dressel.

Brooks swam with Blake Pieroni, Zach Apple, and Bowen Becker in the preliminary round. Curry finished his turn in the water by setting a time of 48.84. Caeleb, however, swum in the finals and won the gold medal for the US relay team.

After that, Dressel did a kind gesture by giving out his medal to Brooks Curry in an iconic moment.

Brooks Curry did not take part in the finals as Caeleb Dressel replaced him for the event. But his swim through the prelims meant he deserved the gold medal. The 20-year-old swimmer is one for the future.

Dressel’s quest for greatness

The US swimmer looks to win six more gold medals in this year’s Olympics. Dressel is taking part in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and the 100-meter butterfly. Apart from the completed relay events, he is also competing in three more relay events.

The swimmer has dominated the swimming scene for the past five years. He won seven gold medals in the 2017 World Championships and added six gold and two silver in the 2019 World championships held in Gwangju.

Dressel is also the current world record holder for the 100-meter butterfly race and is the outright favorite to win the event.

Significantly, the US swimmer has taken over the Phelps mantle as one of the best swimmers in the world. Having already won one gold medal, the stage is set for him to win six more gold medals in Tokyo. Can he do it?
