In 2024, Ryan Murphy, the four-time Olympic champion was responsible for winning the men’s 100m backstroke event in the French capital. The event was right up his alley. In fact, he once boasted of having the world record timing in the event. However, in Paris, Ryan failed to live up to expectations. He ended up claiming the bronze medal in the event. But there was good news awaiting the swimmer.
After the event’s final, Ryan noticed his wife, Bridget Konttinen Murphy, standing in the stands with a board, “Ryan it’s a girl.” The swimming pro couldn’t believe his eyes. After the medal ceremony, he wasted no time and joined his wife on the stand, cherishing the moment. On January 29, the 29-year-old broke the news on Instagram. He is now the father of his girl child, Eevi Lillian Murphy. Ryan is surely over the moon, “Family of 3! Eevi Lillian Murphy🪽came into the world on 1/24/25.” But if you are wondering, “Why Eevi?“, the Olympic champion has an answer for you.
Just below the caption, Ryan Murphy wrote, “A name of Finnish origin meaning “life.””. A new life to mark a new beginning for Ryan and Bridget Konttinen Murphy! Abbey Weitzel, the four-time Olympic medalist dropped her good wishes for the Murphy family, “Eevi 🥹 she’s beautiful congrats you guys!!🩷” Ryan Murphy is now a father. We are excited to see him take on this brand-new role. But what about this swimming champion’s childhood? Do we remember the episode around “My Swimming Life”?

Competitive swimming is Ryan Murphy’s thing. Throughout his childhood, he earned many victories in the sport. But Ryan Murphy was well aware of the fact that he was just getting started. His confidence in himself and passion for the sport culminated in a book, “My Swimming Life.” In that book, Ryan set his targets for the future.
“I hope my swimming life continues and I become an Olympian when I grow up. I hope I will break the world records. I want to be the best swimmer in the world. THE END!!!!!” Ryan Murphy stated in his book. After so many years, he is standing tall, having claimed five Olympic gold medals and a world record (which now doesn’t exist). To make things even better, he is now a father. We can only imagine his happiness and pride at the moment. Meanwhile, the swimming community joined to celebrate with the Murphys.
