Lindsey Vonn has been considered the undisputed queen of alpine skiing for years now. However, she quit the sport in 2019 as a result of multiple injuries, especially her knee. But that was surely not the end of the road for the skiing legend. After a break of 5 long years, Vonn announced her return to mainstream skiing, much to the delight of the fans. At 40 years old, Vonn made it clear that anything can be done if determination and willpower are there. And surely enough, coming back from her hiatus, Vonn did not disappoint.

Despite not winning any World Cups in her short stint back, Vonn had some impressive performances to get the crowd excited. However, the quest for her 83rd World Cup was not completely out of the equation. Chasing an almost elusive dream, the skiing legend took part at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. This was the very same course where Vonn reigned supreme on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, 2025 was not one of her lucky years. After almost securing a second-place finish, Vonn suffered a horrific crash that left the crowd in stunned silence.

Tensions elevated when it was found that Vonn might have injured the same knee that she had replaced recently. Thankfully, the 40-year-old cleared the air, stating that she would be fit for the World Championships in a few weeks. However, she will have to take a short break to recover from the impact. Thankfully, amidst this tense situation, Vonn found a perfect way to divert her mind towards a feel-good incident. The Alpine skiing queen took to her Instagram on January 30, 2025, and posted about her pet Leo, completing his chemotherapy course.

Expressing her elation over the incident, the 40-year-old legend wrote, “Leo graduated from chemo treatment yesterday!!” Vonn then went on to shed light on the fact how proud she was of Leo and also thanked the doctor who treated the innocent soul. “I am so proud of him and so lucky to have had the incredible care of Dr. Brooke and her team and everyone who helped Leo along the way. Thank you for saving my boy!!! She posted several pictures and a video of Leo with a graduation hat. In one of the clips, Leo could be seen happily licking delicacies on his served plate.

Vonn concluded her post by writing, “Leo is in remission and looking like the strong, handsome, perfect boy he is! My heart is full.” Surely, this was one of the most heartfelt moments that the 40-year-old could have experienced during her seemingly tough time. But the competitive nature of Lindsey Vonn is still very much alive. It was on full display as she made a bold Mikaela Shiffrin claim.

Lindsey Vonn makes bold Mikaela Shiffrin claims

Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin are two names that have drawn innumerable comparisons. The record of 82 World Cup victories made by Vonn looked nearly unattainable for years. But Shiffrin broke that deadlock and has since climbed her to 99 victories. Now, with Vonn coming back, the speculations of their potential rivalry are riling up the snowy terrain. However, at the moment, both stalwarts are injured and awaiting their return to mainstream action.

Meanwhile, Vonn recently shed light on her thoughts about Mikaela Shiffrin. Surprisingly, despite the rivalry claims, it seems that there is no love lost between the two. With their sisterhood on full display, Vonn boldly claimed that she would like to partner with Shiffrin. “I would love to race with Mikaela. That would be amazing. And I think it would be probably one of the coolest things ever to have both of us competing together on the same team. It’s 181 World Cup wins between the two of us,” Vonn stated.

The 40-year-old further added that she has already proposed the idea to her coaches. And while Shiffrin too is nursing her injuries from the crash last year, Vonn would be up to make a pact once she returns. She said, “I’ve told my coaches that I want to. Mikaela hasn’t been back skiing yet, at least not with the team, so we have to see how she feels, but if she’s racing in the world championships, then she must be good enough to race in the team event, I would imagine.”

Thus, with Lindsey Vonn trying to create a friendly atmosphere for Mikaela Shiffrin, it remains to be seen if we can ever get the historic chance of watching the two legends team up.
