Tokyo Olympics 2020 thrusted many medal-winners into the spotlight. Venezuelan track and field star Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal at the mega-quadrennial event.

Adding her achievements, she also became the first Barcelona FC member to clinch an Olympic gold medal. She even sent a heartwarming message for her Barca fans from the Tokyo Olympics.

She won the gold in the triple jump event of track and field. Rojas also established the world record at 15.67 meters. Yulimar bettered her performance from 2016, where she clinched the silver medal.

Yulimar Rojas kicks off at the Barcelona vs Getafe match

The Olympic gold medalist has been associated with FC Barcelona since 2016. It happened after she bagged the Olympic silver medal in Rio.

Yulimar Rojas competes in Barca colors at the national competitions. Notably, she was a part of the Barca team who ended Valencia’s 18-year-old domination of Indoor Copa de le Reina.

Celebrating and honoring her victory, Yulimar kicked off the ball at the FC Barcelona vs Getafe match. Here is the video of the Olympic gold medalist kicking off the ball in her own style.

 

Barcelona gets victory at home ground

An Olympic gold medalist kicking off the ball proved to be a lucky charm for the home team. Barca remain unbeaten in La Liga as they won against Getafe with a scoreline of 2-1. They will go into the first international break of the season with 7 points. They are currently fourth in the La Liga table, however, they are tied on points with the league leaders, Real Madrid.

Barca scored their first goal within the first 97 seconds. However, Getafe also had a decent start in the first half, and looked confident. Albeit, the Barcelona team outplayed them in the second half. New signing Memphis Depay scored the winning goal for the team.

Getafe are still looking for their first win after three consecutive defeats.?They have lost to Valencia, Sevilla and now Barcelona. None of them easy tests, in all fairness, with all three teams in the current top four.
