The USWNT will look to capture their fifth gold medal in the history of the Olympics as the Tokyo Olympics 2020 kicks off soon. One of the most notable names in a star-studded team is none other than Carli Lloyd. Lloyd celebrated her birthday at 30,000 feet while flying to the Tokyo Olympics.
A recent video from the U.S. Soccer’s official Twitter handle was posted that showed Lloyd celebrating mid-air. She turned 39 today. The superstar player has won plenty of team honors with the United States Women’s National Team. Triumphs in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, also World Cup winner’s medals in 2015 and 2019 are the pinnacle of her achievements with the national team.

“Just @carlilloyd?celebrating 39 years at 30,000 feet on the way to her 8th world championship! ??#Tokyo2020,” the video was captioned. Lloyd’s success is not limited to collective. She is also a former two-time FIFA Women’s player of the year winner. Awards in 2015 and 2016 belonged to her.
The event in Tokyo will be Lloyd’s fourth appearance on the Olympic stage. She has previously been a part of the team in 2008, 2012, and 2016. Lloyd is also the second-ever player in any form of Soccer to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final. She did so in the 2015 World Cup final where she won the Golden Ball for being the tournament’s best player.
How crucial will Carli Lloyd be to the USWNT’s success in Tokyo Olympics 2020?
The United States Women’s National Team is a team full of stars. The likes of Megan Rapinoe, Sam Mewis, Tobin Heath, and more will all play a crucial role in the team’s success. However, one might argue that the veteran Lloyd is an integral part of the team and her form will be pivotal during the event.
