Home/Track & Field

Usain Bolt and Track and Field just go hand in hand. The 8-time Olympic gold medalist will undoubtedly go down in history as arguably the best sprinter of all time. With the Jamaican sensation now enjoying a peaceful retirement with his family, one always wonders what’s next for Bolt.

Many legends decide to transition into a coaching role following their successful careers. But Usain Bolt took the opposite route, with the Track and Field legend chilling out in his humble abode in Kingston. However, while Bolt might be done with his life on the track, his children could very well follow in his footsteps to carry the torch for Jamaica.

While Bolt would be a proud parent to see his kids carry his legacy, it seems like the Track and Field legend isn’t exactly keen to see the same despite his immense love for the sport.

Usain Bolt Reveals Thoughts Over Children’s Future in Track & Field

In an old interview with People’s magazine in 2021, the Jamaican star revealed what it’s like to have his kids grow and carry forward his legacy. Usain Bolt takes great pleasure in watching his children grow up perfectly fine.

Bolt stated, “I’m sure they’re going to be tall, I can tell. When they get their checkup, they’re like, ‘Wow.’ They’re really growing. They’re going to be tall. So, I know that much. But for me, anything they want to do, I’m just going to support them.”

Is Usain Bolt right to avoid pressuring his kids into track and field greatness?

He further added, “That’s always a key thing: Just support your child in whatever they want to do. So if they don’t want to run, if they don’t want to do sports, I’m okay with it.”

While it would be amazing as a parent to see his kids grow into the position to fill his shoes, the Track and Field legend is well aware of the pressure that comes with the sport. So it isn’t a surprise that he doesn’t seem too keen to have the same on his children.

Despite having a desire to watch his children run from the stands, Bolt claimed that he has plans to force any decision on the three of them. “That’s a high level, and even to win, it would be a dream come true. But as I said, I won’t pressure you. I won’t pressure you. But it would be a great experience as a dad. As an Olympian, to watch your kid as an Olympian, running with the Olympians.”

While it would be a nice feeling to have his children carry forward his legacy, his thoughts of letting them decide their future are quite admirable in all regards. With his eldest daughter now 5 and his twin sons 4, it would be a long time until we see any of them follow in their father’s footsteps, considering it is what their heart desires.
