The Olympic shooting event kick-started today on day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The first podium finish for the mega-event was in the 10m air rifle women’s event.

After two shooting events, China has won two medals, followed by ROC, Switzerland, Iran, and Serbia at one medal each. Day 1 was an intense match day, and tomorrow would be no different.

World champion and Olympic medalist will compete to win in the 10m air pistol women and 10m air rifle men’s event. While shooting is an unpredictable sport, based on world cup championships and Olympic performances, here is the prediction for tomorrow’s events.

Predictions for Day 2 at Tokyo Olympics 2021

10m air pistol women’s event

10m women shooters will have to first compete in the qualifications event. It will be a historic day in the Olympic shooting.

For the first time, women pistol shooters will aim the same number of shots as men in the Olympics. Women shooters will aim 60 shots in the qualification round, and the top 8 shooters will advance to the final rounds.

Rio Olympics medalist Vitalina Batsarashkina has a strong chance of reaching the podium. Whereas Bulgaria’s Viktoria Chaika might also join her after showing her excellent form at the world championships.

The world’s rank two pistol shooter from India, Manu Bhaker will also aim at the podium. Manu Bhaker is the favorite to win after being on the top consistently since 2019.

Whereas China, which has been absent from the world championships, is back in the Olympics. On the first day, they had a stellar run, the same is expected on day 2. Youemei Lin and Jiang Ranxin will represent the nation in the 10m air pistol women.

Other shooters who can win: Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych, Germany’s Carina Wimmer, and Hungary’s Veronika Major.

10m air rifle men’s event

The second match of shooting will be for the 10m air rifle men. In this event as well, a qualification round followed by the finals will be held to secure the medals.

World number one and 2016 Rio Olympics medalist Istvan Peni is a favorite to win after a year of medal rush at world cups. Other Rio Olympics medalists Serhiy Kulish and Vladimir Maslennikov will also make a comeback to secure their records.

Other shooters who can win: USA’s Lucas Kozeinsky, India’s Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Croatia’s Peter Gorsa.

While the mental sport comes with a lot of surprises in the Olympics, China has been consistent in reaching the podium over the years in both events.

However, USA is the shooting powerhouse with the maximum number of Olympic medals. Interestingly, the world rankings are majorly dominated by maiden Olympic shooters. Will young shooters overpower the experienced shooters?
