Day two of Tokyo Olympics 2020 saw final matches in around ten sports. Also, Skateboarding made its debut at Summer Olympics on day 2. Emotions were high, as many countries won and lost medals today.
On the second day, China continued its dominance while Japan followed in the second position. The USA, starting its day one with 0 medals, made a very strong comeback, ending day two at third position.
Sports in which medal ceremonies were conducted on day two were fencing, cycling, diving, judo, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, shooting, archery, and skateboarding.

China continues medal tally domination
Chinese players bagged 5 new medals today. The nation is leading the medal tally with eleven medals (6-gold, one-silver, and 4- bronze). Meanwhile, Japan bettered its standing from third to second.
Japan has won 6 medals, out of which 5 are gold, keeping them at the top rankings. Team USA made an incredible comeback from day one as they clinched 10 medals in one day. The country’s medal tally is 4-gold, 2-silver, and 4-bronze. Because of one less gold medal than Japan, they are at third.
China had a stellar run and claimed gold in fencing, weightlifting, and diving. In shooting, three Chinese shooters bagged medals in two events.
The host nation has been dominating the Judo events, and today was no different as they clinched gold. However, the spotlight moment of the day was a Japanese athlete clinching the gold medal in the skateboarding event.
Yuto Horigome became the first-ever Olympic gold medalist in skateboarding. Brazil won silver, and the USA grabbed bronze. Interestingly, Japan also won a gold medal in swimming (400m individual race), defeating powerhouse USA.
The USA went from 0 to 10 medals on day two
Team USA won at least one medal each in all four swimming events that took place today. Notably, in two swimming events, they grabbed two podium places. Making a comeback in shooting after no medals on day one, USA’s 10m air rifle shooter Will Shaner clinched gold at his maiden Olympics.
The South Koreans are also climbing their way up in the medal tally, as they stand at the fourth position with five medals. South Koreans repeated history as they clinched the gold medal in the women’s team event for the ninth consecutive time.
