Day three of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 saw many historic and inspiring moments. Matches are getting more intense as more sports events are being competed.

Athletes from all around the world competed in fourteen sports to clinch medals on day three. The sports which saw victory ceremonies were shooting, archery, gymnastics, canoe slalom, cycling, diving, fencing, judo, skateboarding, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, and weightlifting.

China, which was leading till the second day, is now in the third position. While Japan has taken over the top position followed by the USA. Interestingly, at the Olympics, the country with a maximum number of gold medals wins, regardless of the total medal count.

Host nation climbs up to the top position at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Japan has been consistently grabbing medals at home soil. On day three, the golden medal rush took them to the top of the medal tally. The host nation has won 13 medals to date.

With 8 gold medals, 2 silver, and 3 bronze, they are leading. On 26th, Japanese athletes reached the top podium finish in judo men’s, judo women’s, table tennis, and skateboarding events. Notably, the moment of the day was Japan defeating China in table tennis.

Table Tennis dominator China has not lost the gold medal in the event in a very long time. But they saw a stunning upset by the Japanese, who defeated them to win the table tennis mixed event.

Team USA climbs at second

Currently, team USA is in the second position with 14 medals (7-gold-, 3-silver, 4- bronze). Because of one less gold than Japan, they are at second.

Team USA shooters clean swept the gold medals at the skeet men’s, skeet women’s, swimming, and fencing women’s individual event. Vincent Hancock won his third Olympic gold medal in skeet men’s individual event.

China almost touching 20 medals

China ended the third day with 18 medals and will soon hit 20 and more. However, they are in the third position as their medal count is at 6 golds, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

China couldn’t win any gold medal on day three like other countries. Albeit, they are winning medals in a plethora of events.

The Russian Olympic committee climbed up on the medal tally at fourth with 12 medals (4-gold,5-silver, and 3- bronze). Following them is Great Britain, covering up early days medal drought with 7 medals (3- gold,3- silver, and 1-bronze).
