Tokyo Olympics 2020 has been a successful event even after facing a ton of hurdles. The Olympic spirit is common amongst the athletes at the mega-quadrennial games.
Olympians use their voice and position to support causes and other fellow human beings. Olympic silver medalist, Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk has decided to use her prestigious medal to save a life. Maria will auction her medal to raise money for a seriously ill child.

Maria Andrejcyz clinched the silver medal in the javelin throw event. Maria threw at 64.61 meters to take the second position on the podium, while China’s Liu Shiying won the gold medal. As soon as she returned to her nation, she announced the idea of auctioning her medal to save a life.
Andrejczyk has decided to raise money for Mislov, a toddler who urgently needs heart surgery. The young life is suffering from complex heart disease and venous problems. Because of this, there is a complete dysfunction in the child’s pulmonary veins and needs to get operated on in the US.
Notably, the parents of a young boy, Kubus, who couldn’t survive have passed on the collected funds to Mislov. Half the amount for the operation out of 1.5 million PLN has already been managed.

Maria will make a post on her social media, under which the fundraiser will take place. Bidders will have to send a private message with all the details to make their bids. Maria also announced that the auction will start at PLN 200,000.

Another Poland athlete had auctioned his silver medal to save a child from cancer
Polish discus thrower, Piotr Malachowski, had auctioned his Rio silver medal in 2016. The aim was to collect money to treat a 3-year-old boy suffering from eye cancer.
Notably, Poland’s richest couple had bought the medal with the highest bid. The couple willingly paid whatever was needed to ensure the child’s treatment.

The Polish athletes might have given up their medals, but their act of kindness makes them a hero. Today their Olympic medal is worth a life and health of a child. These athletes make the Olympic games pure, and raise the belief that the Olympic spirit is beyond the boundaries of grounds.
