The Japanese government has been praised in its effort to continue with the Tokyo Olympics through the dangers of the pandemic and persevering to safely carry out events in the face of not only COVID-19 but also popular push-back from part of its own populace.?

The hosting of the Games without spectators, however, is something Piers Morgan just cannot get past. The British journalist and media figure took to Twitter to blast the Olympics for its half-hearted nature, much to the outrage of fans and other sportspersons alike.?

?Nobody cares about these covid-ravaged Olympics,? he wrote. ?I feel incredibly sorry for all the athletes still trying to live their Olympic dream, but that is the harsh reality. And the great champions like Adam Peaty know it. It should have been either further postponed or cancelled.?

Piers Morgan also called for a change in swimming attire

This tweet was met with harsh rebuke from former Olympians who took the broadcaster head-on. However, this was not the only part of the Olympics Morgan criticised. He later pointed out the attire of male swimmers competing in the event.

?Shocking and shameful that male divers have to wear such overtly sexualising skimpy briefs at the Olympics,? he wrote. ?I demand full-body unitards to protect and respect their dignity.?

The media figure believes Bronze medals do not warrant a celebration

While a lot about Olympic attire has been thrown into question, Piers Morgan did not stop his time in the burners there. He even blasted athletes of Team Great Britain for celebrating a bronze medal!

?It’s great to see Team Great Britain athletes win Gold medals, not least so we can stop pretending Bronze is an achievement worthy of national celebration,? he wrote. ?But let’s be honest – these Olympics are just not the same without fans.?

This was in response to England soccer legend Gary Lineker, with whom he had a brief enhance on the platform. Morgan has come under scrutiny for his statements and has characteristically refused to apologise. Instead, he has taken on fans and athletes, sharing a picture of one of his own sporting triumphs.
