Jessica Springsteen is one of the most recognisable names on the US Olympic show jumping short list. Being the daughter of a legendary musician puts more pressure on her shoulders. However, she’s already a champion in her own right. Springsteen has already represented USA on the international equestrian stage.

The 29-year-old won the K 4* Grand Prix Hubside Jumping Tour equestrian event on Grimaud, Saint-Tropez, France. That is one of the premiere pre-Olympic competitions, and a win for Springsteen means it boosts her chances of making her the US show jumping team.

Also on the short list is Kent Farrington, McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Beezie Madden, Bliss Heers, Lucy Deslauriers, Brian Moggre, Devin Ryan and Adrienne Sternlicht. From this shortlist, Farrington, Ward, Kraut and Madden have previously competed at the Olympic level.

Springsteen almost made it to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but her horse suffered an unfortunate injury. This year, all eyes will be on her if she makes it to Tokyo.

Surrounded by paparazzi constantly in Los Angeles, Springsteen and his then wife, Patti Scialfa, moved to a farm in Colts Neck Township in New Jersey. There, their daughter Jessica picked up her love for horse-riding and then eventually equestrian. She graduated from Duke University in 2014 and devoted the rest of her life to her equestrian career.

In 2011, Springsteen began her journey as a professional equestrian rider, taking part in the highly prestigious Royal Windsor Horse Show. After that milestone, British equestrian legend Peter Charles sold his gold medal-winning horse, Vindicat W to Springsteen. She broke into the picture by becoming an alternate at the 2012 Olympics, and her career only rose from there.
