The Tokyo Olympics 2020 came to a fitting end last weekend. The truly mesmerizing closing ceremony captured the imagination of fans and audiences across the globe. Just like in Rio 2016, it was the United States of America that finished at the summit of the Olympic medal tally. The American Olympic contingent finished with a total of 113 medals, including 39 gold, 41 silver and 33 bronze medals.

One of the American teams to secure gold in Japan was the women’s volleyball team. The squad defeated Brazil 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14) at Ariake Arena to win their first-ever Olympic gold medal in volleyball. The team was coached by three-time Olympic gold medalist and retired dominant beach volleyball professional Karch Kiraly.

A host of former players and retired athletes congratulated them on this fantastic achievement. But there was another public figure that paid tribute to the new Olympic champions.
