The situation had been bittersweet. In fact, when Munehiro Kugimiya took the responsibility to train Carlos Yulo’s siblings, Karl Eldrew and Elaiza Yulo, the fans saw it as a positive sign. A sign of erasing the publicized rift in the Yulo family that took the gymnastics fans aback! 

After the Paris Olympics, Carlos blamed her mother, Angelica Yulo, for embezzling his accounts and his prize money from key gymnastics contests. However, Angelica came back with multiple statements afterward. She hurled a scathing verbal attack at Carlos’ girlfriend, accusing her of being the culprit in disrupting the relationship. Also, she gave a clean chit to her own activities of keeping a few numbers away from Carlos’s account. She called it an “investment” for the future. 

In the meantime, Carlos’ brother, Karl Eldrew, took his mother’s side, claiming her as the key figure in keeping her children’s side protected since the early days. As a result, the fans remained doubtful of seeing things in a positive light. But here comes the good news. A few things have just fallen into place for the Yulo brothers. 

Carlos Yulo shows hope for his brother’s future 

On January 27, Carlos Yulo appeared at the 2024 Philippines Sportswriters Association (PSA) Award Night in the Manila Hotel. With Olympic gold medals in his bag, the 24-year-old gymnast was the first choice to land the title of the Athlete of the Year. But a few things in the backend made the Award Night more special. Such as? Karl Eldrew Yulo’s presence in the audience seat! Overwhelming emotion washed over the young gymnast as he watched his older brother win the championship that night. The scene, however, was not without its shortcomings. 

On the Award Night, the entire Yulo family had the option to grace the ballroom. But only Karl Eldrew marked his attendance. A significant absence? Well, the surprise came in the next scene when the reporters discovered Carlos and his brother standing side by side in the ballroom. Soon, the Olympian was asked a few expected questions. Such as? Someone asked him about Karl Eldrew’s development as a gymnast. The loving brother, however, caught the question with both hands. After all, he now shares the gym with his little brother. Eventually, that experience made him claim a few things. 

While replying to the questions, Carlos Yulo said, “Based on what I see in practice and the progress I see in practice, he could also be one of the favorites. I’m really proud of that. It’s amazing, together with his friends at practice.” Meanwhile, Karl enjoyed the moment, wearing a smile ear to ear. His brother’s word came as a certificate for him. But has he reached the mark yet? Does he need to do something to fill up the gaps? The two-time Olympic champion set the route map. 

In the conversation, Carlos brought in his own example to narrate his brother’s chance. He ultimately said, “I’m happy with what he’s doing. The more I am given, the more focused I am, the better I will be. He also accepted that. I am very proud of the work provided.” The elder brother was all about sweet words for Karl Eldrew. But will such behavior douse the ongoing situation? 

The situation is showing signs of having a positive situation 

Carlos Yulo was not the only one to earn clapping from the audience on the Award Night at the Manila Hotel. On Monday, Karl Eldrew earned a special citation. Why? His achievements in the 2024 Asian Gymnastics Union Artistic Gymnastics Championships led him to claim that. But what did he have in that contest? In the championships, Carlos’ brother bagged the gold medal in the juniors’ vault final. In the same championships, Carlos had two gold medals in the seniors’ individual all-around and floor exercise events. It was a win-win situation for the Yulo brothers in the contest last year. 

But since then, several things have changed. The matriarch of the Yulo family, Angelica, blamed Chloe San Jose, Carlos’ girlfriend, for breaking the bond in the family. However, Monday night this week witnessed something different. While chasing Carlos Yulo in the ballroom of the Manila Hotel, the camera spotted Chloe with him appearing in the razzmatazz. Not only that, Chloe was framed sharing light moments with Karl Eldrew in the ballroom. Do those scenes signify something better? Is the family busy mending the cracks? If yes, then the fans will be the happiest.
