In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics so far, Slovenia is looking devastating. If anyone is going to challenge Team USA for the coveted gold medal, it is the Slovenians. Leading the side through all adversities is the effortless Luka Doncic. The 2-meter tall star has been dominant in Slovenia’s two games so far.

In their first match of the 2020 Olympic Games, Slovenia took on a spirited Argentina. However, as the match went on, the spirit was the one thing that Argentina had none left of. Doncic anchored Slovenia with 48 points, 31 of which came in the first half. The 22-year-old didn’t have to do much in the final 20 minutes, as he single-handedly destroyed the Argentinians. Slovenia cruised to a 118-100 victory.

Coming into the second game, Aleksander Sekulic’s side was high on confidence. The faith shown in Doncic was being repaid, and how! The home favorite Japanese side was on the other end but to no avail. The Dallas Mavericks marquee player, along with Zoran Dragic, annihilated the Japanese defense. Combining for a mammoth 49 points, the duo led Slovenia to a 116-81 win. Luka Doncic, however, didn’t just dominate the attacking end.

Luka Doncic bossing the defensive side too
There has been an argument from a segmented part of the basketball fraternity regarding Doncic’s defensive contributions. Whilst threatening on the opposition half, many have claimed that the youngster can do better on the defensive end of things. Now, this opinion has been quashed at this year’s Olympics.

The Slovenian’ starlet has scored over 70 points in the two games so far. Yet, his defensive contributions have gone relatively unnoticed. Falling back to assist his men has been a trademark of Doncic in the two encounters so far. His hefty presence in itself is intimidating enough for the opponents; along with this, the forward-guard has amassed an extraordinary 5 blocks in 2 games.

With numbers like these on both ends of the court, Luka Doncic is proving to be a beast that cannot be tamed. Of late, the player has come under some scrutiny and has also faced comparisons with players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, mainly for his all-around game. Nonetheless, if Doncic keeps this form going, the path to glory at Tokyo 2020 may not be far away.
