A sellout crowd at the Gill Coliseum got exactly what they came for this Saturday. The Jade Carey show! What else do we call it? Yes, it was the Oregon Beavers’ Senior Day Meet. But Carey absolutely stole the thunder from the rest of the 7 seniors. No wonder, when she was absent from a crucial NCAA meet earlier this season, the rest of the Beavers had to push harder than usual. What had happened back then? Well, without Carey, things could have taken a turn in Oregon’s season. But did the team hold its ground and get the job done?

Well, let’s go back to February 21, 2025. The Oregon Beavers had assembled at the Fort Worth Convention Center for the Metroplex Challenge. But the enthusiasm was short-lived. Facing No # 14 Arkansas, No # 19 Arizona, and Southeast Missouri State (SEMO), the Beavers had finished third, which was way lower than what was expected of them. This truly came down as a big blow for the side. So, did they recover? Or sunk down after the loss?

In the recent post-meet press conference on March 15, Tanya Chaplin, the Oregon head coach, recalled that Metroplex meet and confessed, “They [the gymnasts] did a great job of really staying strong, you know. I think we had a hiccup at Metroplex um that was probably one of our where we saw like that wear and tear hit us the most.” Of course, it would have hit them hard. Even after Jade Carey won the all-around title, while also bagging event titles on the bars, beam, and floor, the Beavers had lost in Metroplex.

But the motto they followed afterward? ‘Fall six times, get up seven.’ After the Metroplex setback, the Beavers realized the Stanford meet was up next. And Jade Carey was not competing. So the rest truly had to pull up their socks. And guess what? They did! Thus, after the recent Senior Day meet, Chaplin recalled Stanford and commended the team, saying, “But they came back the next week knowing that Jade was not going to be competing and they came back really strong and competed strong at Stanford.”

Not too high, the Beavers had finished third in the Stanford meet without Jade Carey. But their bars had a strong showing inside Maples Pavilion. They scored higher on it than any other apparatus with a 49.300 that featured no lower than a 9.800 for every single routine. And it’s safe to say the Oregon Beavers did not let the upward momentum die down after that. They carried it into the San Jose meet, as Chaplin recently said, “And then brought that energy back to um San Jose before we came home so we were on the right trajectory.”

Also, by the time they reached San Jose, Jade Carey was back. With a pair of 9.975s on her way to a 39.825 in the all-around, she right away led Oregon State gymnastics to a victory against San Jose State. So yes, something truly changed in everyone after the Metroplex hiccup. No wonder Tanya Chaplin said in the conference, I think Metroplex just kind of woke us up and you know kind of like we came back and said okay what do we need to change where do we what are we doing you know that well that we want to keep um what are things that we feel we need to interject into our training into just what we’re doing on a daily basis.”

What’s your perspective on:

Did Jade Carey steal the spotlight, or did the Beavers shine brighter without her presence?

Have an interesting take?

And now what after San Jose? Well, the Oregon Beavers faced off against the Air Force on Saturday, for Senior Day. And as we told you earlier, Jade Carey stunned us all there.

Jade Carey bags 2 more perfect 10s

In a season where perfect 10 scores have been truly scanty, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles was able to bag them twice. But what about Jade Carey? Well, she matched up recently. She earned a pair of perfect scores as Oregon State gymnastics finished with a season-high score of 197.700 against the Air Force gymnasts.

Jade Carey wrapped up the day with a career-best 39.925 score. This included a pair of perfect 10s on the beam and the floor. And these were followed by a 9.950 on the vault and 9.975 on the bars. So yeah, Carey, who bagged the event titles here, has now won both the all-around and beam titles in all 10 of her meets this season. Isn’t that incredible?
