“I don’t like social media-not one bit.” Jordan Chiles December 2024 take was loud and clear. Social media allows people to look at public figures in a way that isn’t authentic to who they are or what they’ve done in their lives. And honestly, who understands this feeling better than her? After Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal in Paris, a long-drawn controversy ensued and the gymnast was bombarded with hate, judgment, and whatnot. But in 2025, she is clearly not choosing to stay silent! The Vancouver gymnast is now clapping back at the critics and here’s how.

On February 20th, Jordan Chiles was featured on the Time Magazine annual Women of the Year list, as one of the 13 honorees. This put her right back in the public eye as one of only three athletes (A’ja Wilson, Nicole Kidman) to get a solo cover! Also, with 2 perfect 10 scores at the 2025 NCAA season, a gymnast of the week honor, and now this, Chiles has been on a roll. And the internet has been full of praise. But if you ask her, Chiles wouldn’t have wanted any of it. Clearly, her wounds from the past criticism are yet to be healed.

When Jordan Chiles sat down for the Times interview with A’ja Wilson, the 2x Olympian was asked, “We’re constantly told to be vulnerable, be authentic, be ourselves. But there’s a tension that you’re both describing—sometimes you don’t really want to be perceived, because that also invites feedback that can be tough to handle. How do you navigate that?” That’s when she opened up on navigating the journey of being herself on social media.

Jordan Chiles said, “If I had the choice, I wouldn’t share anything about my life. But then I wouldn’t be able to give the younger generation something to look at.” With the sole aim of inspiring the young guns, Chiles pushes herself to deal with the exterior voices, judgments, and opinions that come in due to her public life. And where does she get the courage to do this? From the ones who did the same for her. “We had people before us who were able to walk for others to run,” she said.

But as much as she believes in this approach, Jordan Chiles strongly resents the critics and their unwarranted trolling. Thus, she had a strong message (rather, advice) for them. The 23-year-old displayed great maturity as she said, “How I think of it is, if you’re gonna sit there and critique somebody, try to get underneath their skin, then it’s something that’s inside of you that you’re not OK with.”

Of course, she gets it. Jordan Chiles has been through so much in 2024. There were cheating accusations against her, of wrongly securing the Paris Olympics floor exercise bronze medal. There was even racist hate hurled at her online. And naturally, all this is bound to take a toll on anyone.

Clearly, she isn’t staying silent now, unlike before when her mother would step in to take a stand for her. Yes, Gina Chiles had to be that bold social media voice for her daughter! And probably, Chiles is borrowing a page from her book now.

Gina Chiles chimes in to support Jordan Chiles

The racist disgusting comments are still happening in 2024. I’m tired of people who say it no longer exists. My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched…and she’s being called disgusting things,” posted on X in August 2024. Gina Chiles refused to stay shut on social media watching all that was transpiring against her daughter.

For no fault of her own, Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal was stripped after the CAS upheld that Team USA appealed beyond the 1-minute threshold and gave the medal back to Ana Barbosu. Currently, the matter is at the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, where Chiles is fighting it all out! And on the other hand, her mother continues to be her loudest cheerleader!

My baby girl is TIME Women of the Year… Like on the cover y’all. When God lines it all out- He shows out!! I mean….this is INCREDIBLE!!” she posted after Jordan Chiles and A’ja Wilson featured on the Times Cover. She even continued giving the two a shoutout saying, “By the way- A’ja & Jordan are the same person…lol…just different altitudes.”

Well, perhaps Chiles is now getting her confidence from Gina. She is no longer keeping mum and is taking things into her own hands. She’s silencing the trolls, fighting for her medal, and racking the NCAA season all at once! What do you think of this? Let us know below!
