Simone Biles has been embracing adventure ever since she returned from the Paris Olympics with four medals. The icon of gymnastics has her valuable time off to travel everywhere. From NYC to Georgia and now Switzerland. And joining her on this fun trip is none other than husband Jonathon Owens. Biles has been soaking in the postcard-perfect scenery of Switzerland. And sharing glimpses of their cozy getaway with fans. And with both partners being elite athletes, this getaway came after a long time.
Recently, Biles also took to her Instagram to confirm her Swiss vacation. She posted a serene morning shot captioned, “Good morning, Switzerland.” The couple, wrapped in matching puffer jackets, strolled through the charming streets, making the most of their time together before returning to their rigorous athletic schedules. Their trip follows a whirlwind year for Biles, who not only dominated in Paris. But was also honored as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year as she achieved the status of gymnastics GOAT.
However, as it appears, getaways like these have always been part of Biles’ vision. Even as a teenager, when her life revolved around gymnastics, she dreamed of indulging in the world’s most breathtaking destinations. At 19, just after giving up her NCAA eligibility and turning professional, she was asked to think of something she had always wanted. While she had spent years aiming for Olympic gold, her answer had nothing to do with gymnastics. She longed for a vacation.

Simone Biles, now enjoying a Euro trip once questioned affording a tropical escapade
And now, nearly a decade later, Biles no longer has to wonder if she can afford such a dream. She has made her teenage dreams a perfect reality. And that too with her husband, of all people. Switzerland is just the latest stop in her journey, proving that while gymnastics may have been her first love, travel has always been a close second.
The European retreat that Simone has now embarked upon brings back memories of a long-held dream from Biles’ past. A dream that she decided to talk about in her book ‘Courage to Soar. Back in 2015, just after she relinquished her NCAA eligibility and turned professional, she was asked to think of something she had always wanted. At the time, barely 19 Biles admitted she had little idea about the world outside her sport. But after some thought, she revealed that she wanted to take a tropical vacation.
At the tender age of about 19, Simone and her mother required the assistance of a financial advisor as she signed several endorsement deals as a rising gymnastics star. And young Simone found it “weird” to have an advisor at that age. While she shared her thoughts with her brother Adam, she narrated how she was asked an abrupt question by her advisor. “She wanted me to tell her something that I’ve always wanted. She told me to think of something really big.” Simone said to her brother. And Adam was immediately eager to know the answer from his sister. And her response left him in stitches.
“I’ve seen pictures, and it’s so beautiful there,” she told Adam, reminiscing about the crystal-clear waters and overwater bungalows. “It’s like this magical place you don’t think you’d ever be able to go to except it exists right here on earth with us. But I bet it’s expensive. What do you think? Could I even afford that?” young Biles enquired. Her brother’s response was one of sheer amusement.
Laughing until tears streamed down his face, he asked her, “Oh, Simone. That’s it? That’s the big thing you came up with? I kind of think you’ll be able to manage a vacation to Bora Bora anytime you want. I’m pretty sure you’ve already made enough to do that.” Even her brother Adam was shocked to hear how innocence took the better of Biles while she was asked such a question.

However, although it was an innocent wish, that dream stayed with her into adulthood. So much so that when she and Owens were planning their wedding, Bora Bora was at the top of their list for a honeymoon destination. Now, nearly a decade later, Biles no longer has to wonder if she can afford such a trip. From once fantasizing about tropical escapes to now effortlessly exploring the world with her husband, she has turned those teenage aspirations into reality. The couple even planned their big fat magnificent destination wedding at a venue that kissed the ocean waves. They tied the knot in Cabo, Mexico, after having an intimate marriage ceremony back in their hometown.
While Bora Bora may have been her ultimate wish back then, Switzerland has now become the perfect escape for the decorated gymnast and her NFL star partner. The couple has been jet-setting frequently in 2025, with trips to New York and now the Swiss Alps, marking a new chapter of adventure and relaxation.
