Morgan Price is the next big thing. Two years ago, she joined Fisk University, idolizing the then coach, Corrine Tarver. In her collegiate years, Corrine remained the first Black gymnast to land the USAG title. Drawing her inspiration from there, Morgan Price claimed the same title in April 2024- the first ever to do so from an HBCU program! What better way to honor one’s idol? But that wasn’t all. The 19-year-old gymnast had more in store for us!
This season, the Tennessee native extended her glorious run, becoming a face of Black gymnasts. On February 8 this year, she became the first HBCU gymnast to achieve a perfect ten on the mat. In the Quad meet, her achievement came against names like Pennsylvania, Southern Connecticut, and Temple. But again, for the sophomore, such fireworks were just the start. On the last day of Black History Month, she planned something big. What better way to give back to her rich culture?
The magic happened at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. And this time, achievement wasn’t only about Morgan Price’s lone charisma. Rather, each one from Fisk University contributed to the mix and made the impossible task look like an undemanding job. But can you guess what the task was?

Fisk University ticks off the unthinkable job
On February 28, the Instagram handle of the Planet of Gymnastics shared an update, “Fisk becomes first HBCU team to beat a D1 and D2 school.” On February 28, the women’s gymnastics team got the better of two programs, Southeast Missouri and the University of Bridgeport, and in the process, created history as the first ever HBCU gymnastics program to even achieve anything like this. Fisk University star gymnast Morgan Price was her usual amazing self, playing a crucial role in clinching that astounding win at Missouri!

Among the Lady Bulldogs, Price had the best scores in three out of four events. Such a phenomenal run helped her amass a stunning score of 39.350, making her the topper in the list of all-around scorers. This effort contributed to Fisk University’s total score of 194.600. In the meantime, Southeast Missouri’s challenge stopped at 194.400 while Bridgeport scored 193.850. In the end, everything turned out as the 19-year-old had always wanted.

Morgan Price keeps fulfilling the promises she made
In 2022, Morgan Price, knowing that Fisk University, an HBCU, has a gymnastics program, was quick to decommit from the University of Arkansas and find a new home at Fisk. For her, it was a fantastic opportunity that will let her pursue her gymnastics dream while also helping her stay rooted to her culture. Since then, several accolades later, the 19-year-old hasn’t looked back. In 2023, she sat with ESPN to discuss her decision to join the program.

In that interaction with ESPN, Morgan Price said, “We have a lot of eyes on us because we are the first and because we are making history, so it’s just so exciting to be a part of the first team ever.” From its very inception, the program was destined to go down in history. Fisk University laid the foundation for its gymnastics program in 2022, and it’s already made its way to the top. Although team chemistry plays a huge role in the success of Fisk gymnastics, Price herself had dreams to achieve. She was working not just for her team, but also for herself. On February 27 this year, WFAA shared an interview clip of Morgan Price on YouTube.

In that clip, the Tennessee native conceded, “My goal was obviously to like win those individually, but I was really like, you know, like if it doesn’t happen, it’s OK as long as I’m putting in all the work, working my hardest.” The latest triumph has arrived in satisfying Morgan’s wishes—to win something individually and for the program. With such impeccable record, she has a long way to go and we wish her the best for the same.
