Corrine Tarver must be beaming with pride—even from afar. Thirty-five years ago, she carved her name into gymnastics history as the first Black woman to win the USAG All-Around title, representing Georgia Gymnastics. Fast forward to 2025, and her legacy has come full circle—this time through her former student, Morgan Price. Price didn’t just walk in her mentor’s footsteps; she sprinted past them. She matched the level of elite gymnasts, and let’s just say, we are here for it. Sp, what’s her latest achievement?

Last year, under Tarver’s guidance at Fisk University, Price made history by becoming the first college gymnastics national champion to represent an HBCU. But time has moved on. It’s April 2025 now. Tarver has since left Fisk, and Price has stepped into a new chapter without her mentor by her side. Still, the fire burns just as bright. So when the WCGNIC National Championships returned to Shreveport’s Centenary Dome on April 11, and Price had a shot at defending her crown, the question lingered: Could she do it again? Would there be drama? Of course, there was.

On Friday night, the pressure was dialed all the way up. Southeastern Missouri’s Taylor Ingle had already put up a massive 39.225 in the first session, setting the bar for anyone in the second flight to chase. Price knew exactly what she needed to do. The arena buzzed with anticipation as she took the floor, one event at a time. And she didn’t flinch. With her trademark poise and razor-sharp execution, Morgan Price delivered another all-around clinic. Her routines were crisp, clean, and confident. When the dust settled, her score flashed on the screen: 39.350. Ultimately, that was more than enough. Back-to-back national all-around titles. The first-ever repeat champion from an HBCU program. And now, she’s heading into Sunday’s individual finals with momentum and a mission. But perhaps the most powerful moment came before she even stepped onto the floor.

In an interview with Forbes’ Carolina Price, the 19-year-old dropped a heartfelt revelation: when her collegiate career wraps up in two years, she wants to become a coach—for an HBCU gymnastics program. Her reason?

“I know that a lot of little gymnasts, whether they’re a minority or not, look up to us because they see a whole team full of Black and brown gymnasts doing the sport that they love,” Morgan said. “It shows that you can also do college gymnastics as well, as long as you keep working hard and putting your mind to it.”  However, it’s more than just competition for her. It’s about legacy. Representation. Building a future where the next generation doesn’t just dream—but knows there’s a place for them.

Morgan Price had always looked for more than a stellar gymnastics program. For her, representation matters, principle matters, and upholding her culture matters. She didn’t think twice before switching from the dominant Arkansas Razorbacks’ gymnastics program, where her sister, Frankie Price, trains, to Fisk’s newly introduced gymnastics program. Being a part of an HBCU was all that she needed. Now, she is making history and encouraging budding gymnasts to join Fisk to pursue their ambitions. Price is a role model like no other, after all, she matches up to elite gymnasts like Jade Carey!

The odds were stacked, the crowd was loud, and the Beavers were ready. When the final scores dropped, it was a clear victory for Jade Carey’s squad, who posted a dominant 197.375 to Fisk’s 192.850.
