A perfect field day, but not so perfect! Confusing, right? The last Sunday (February 23) remained that only for the UCLA Bruins’ gymnastics. Now talking about the perfect part, the current No. 2 program is still unbeaten in the Big Ten this season. On Sunday, it handed No. 15 Michigan a thrashing defeat after putting yet another 197+ on the scoreboard. It’s the Bruins’ seventh straight this season. Also, the victory over the Wolverines has earned the Bruins an enviable 6-0 score in the Big Ten. Also, it was the Bruins’ last conference match this season. So the program did everything perfectly right to get the sweeter piece?

The fans wouldn’t agree more. In fact, on Sunday, the Crisler Center saw an unbelievable 11,000 in the audience box cheering for the teams. A perfect treat for both teams on a perfect day! However, several gymnastics fans saw things differently. Per them, Bruins’ two stars could have managed perfect ten scores to set things up. But they missed because of judging errors. How so? And who are these gymnasts?

On February 23, both Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors posted 9.975 in the floor exercise event. Their scores remained a whisker away from the perfect ten. The Instagram handle of Planet of Gymnastics called their performances “ART. PURE BRUIN ART.” So, they should have been given the perfect score. Right? A few fans raised the demand in the comment box. They called out the judges for making such a grave mistake, keeping two gymnasts out of having the fun of landing perfect tens. One such comment went, “I swear those judges hate happiness.” According to the fans, happiness lies in earning a perfect ten. Absolutely, that’s an achievement. But two days ago, UCLA’s fearsome competitor, LSU gymnastics, lived the same day.

On February 21, the LSU fans criticized the judges for robbing Kailin Chio of having a perfect ten at the floor exercise event. In the event, Chio reached 9.850 without showing any flaw. Yet she failed to have the perfect score. Similarly, Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors remained straight and flexible in the floor exercise event. Among them, Jordan’s routine was almost a photocopy of the performance she had put against Michigan State on February 1.

On that day, Jordan was equally exquisite in her floor exercise routine. She didn’t let her weakness for her fever affect her performance. Meanwhile, her determination earned her the perfect 10. Today, she faced a brutal fall in her uneven bars routine. Yet she stood up and gave an impressive performance. The gymnastics fans stood on that. They didn’t find any reason to shave 0.025 from the gymnasts’ scores. Here are the comments they left to display their emotions.

Did the judges rob Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors of their well-deserved perfect tens?

Have an interesting take?

The UCLA Bruins gymnastics fans remained ‘baffled’

“Literally both 10’s! Annoying!” Someone commented in the box beneath Planet of Gymnastics’ Instagram post. Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine found so many highlights. What about Brooklyn Moors’ one? The commentator had three words when Moors completed her event. “That was perfect.” But did it reflect on the scoreboard? Check the comment. “How Brooklyn did not score a 10 just baffles me.” The 5’3” gymnast has a special identity. She is the Tokyo Olympics all-around finalist. Also, she has been recognized in the Worlds.

Still, today Brooklyn’s seamless movement on the floor wasn’t enough to give her a perfect 10. The gymnastics fans found no justification behind it. The Canadian gymnast had everything in her performance. She served those without mixing with each other. But no perfect ten for her! Noticing this, someone wrote in the comment box, “Brooklyn has been SO much cleaner since joining NCAA. Her twisting technique is perfect now. I criticize a lot of 10s but that was fully deserving.” Since 2022, Brooklyn has been in the mix. She has records and accolades. But today, she reached her highest score at the floor exercise event. A perfect 10 could have been better on that occasion, right? Fans thought that.

In the meantime, a gymnastics fan again threw the demand, “both deserved tens !! 🗣️🗣️.” The revised scoring and judging policies have been at a critical point since the beginning of this college gymnastics season. The recent argument will surely add another chapter to it.
