2025 is turning up to be a big year for the Jordan Chiles-led UCLA. Not only did they leave defending champs LSU to claim the #2, they just might reach #1 Oklahoma if they continue their current trend. After all, they made history on March 2nd as they secured their first Big Ten title as they dominated the Big Four meet at Ohio State. But that’s not all. They are also on a nine-win streak in the conference and their coach, Janelle McDonald, is visibly stoked.
The Bruins (12-2) owned the conference as they racked up their eighth straight win with a 197.200, leaving Nebraska (196.675), Ohio State (196.650), and Rutgers (195.875) in the rearview. But Sunday’s quad meet wasn’t exactly perfect! Let’s just say some dismounts weren’t as stuck as they should’ve been but the Bruins still walked away with the win.
And guess who was leading the charge? Jordan Chiles, of course. She crushed it, taking titles in the all-around, floor, and uneven bars. She even shared the floor title with her fellow Olympian and UCLA teammate, Canada’s Brooklyn Moors. After witnessing UCLA’s historic first Big Ten title, head coach Janelle McDonald didn’t hold back, getting real about what’s next for this powerhouse squad.

After a rough start to the season (week one’s 195 score), the Bruins decided enough was enough. Since then, they’ve dropped 197.000 or higher in eight straight meets, which in gymnastics terms means legit. Back in week one, they were sitting at No. 12 in the rankings. Now? Boom! No. 3 and right in the mix for a national title.

“They really wanted to come to the Big Ten and make an impact,” Head Coach Janelle McDonald said. Well, mission accomplished. And this could just be the beginning. After all, the Bruins are still raring to go further. And with the Big Ten Championships later this month they will have another chance. The chance to prove what they are worth.
But while coach McDonald is proud, she knows there’s still work to be done.“I could not be more proud of how the team has showed up every time,” she said. “They love what they do, and we have some big goals this season. We feed off this energy, and we are excited to put on a show. We have confidence to build.”
And with Chiles leading the charge, UCLA isn’t just dreaming about a national title—they’re coming for it! But how did UCLA perform on each apparatus, and how did Chiles do individually?

Jordan Chiles and UCLA hold their nerve to seal the win
It all started on 3rd March with a bang on the floor, where UCLA came out swinging and posted a 49.500. Five gymnasts scored 9.850 or higher, with Brooklyn Moors and Jordan Chiles throwing down back-to-back 9.950s to close the rotation in style. Macy McGowan and Emma Malabuyo impressed on the floor with 9.875s, while Chae Campbell added a 9.850.

UCLA kept the momentum on vault, scoring 49.275, with McGowan and Mika Webster-Longin leading at 9.875. Campbell stuck her Yurchenko full, and Lee, Moors, and Chiles added 9.825s. Nebraska kept it close, trailing by just two-tenths at the halfway mark, 98.775-98.575. Then came bars, where UCLA put up a solid 49.300.

Campbell set the tone with a 9.875, and Jordan Chiles delivered in the clutch with a 9.950 to anchor the rotation. But a few iffy landings in between cost them some tenths, allowing Nebraska to hang around after scoring 49.150 on the floor. With only a slim 0.35 lead heading into the beam, the Bruins needed to stay steady to clinch the win—and they did just enough, scoring a 49.125 to seal the deal.
Lee led with a 9.875, while Chiles and Campbell each added a 9.825. And, no surprise here—Chiles walked away with her third straight all-around title, scoring 39.550, while Campbell finished third with a 39.425. Now, all eyes turn to Senior Day on Sunday, March 9, as UCLA wraps up its home season against Stanford. Expect big performances, big emotions, and maybe even bigger scores—because this team isn’t done yet.
