A good day in the office for Jordan Chiles and Co.? The Olympian might not say no. On Sunday (February 23), she had a fall in the uneven bars event in the match between the No. 2 UCLA Bruins and the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines. However, she managed well to respond to the shock and put her foot down in the next three events. Undoubtedly, a brave attempt by the Olympian! Ultimately, her heroics on the mat earned the Bruins a memorable victory in front of 11,000 fans in the Crisler Center. However, there remained someone in the mix who also sparkled like Jordan in the match.

Specifically, on Sunday, the gymnast’s sparkle came in the floor exercise event. She scored the same as Jordan did. But the day ended with some special notes. Her score in the floor exercise event against the Wolverines remained the best one in her collegiate career. Yet there was something more. What about a shout-out from an Olympian?

The day ends with multiple hues

On February 23, Brooklyn Moors scored a fine 9.975 in the floor exercise event in UCLA Bruins’ rotation 3. Well, Jordan Chiles put the same number on the scoreboard. But there was something distinct in Brooklyn’s performance that didn’t go missed by Kathy Johnson Clarke. Being a veteran sports commentator, she has the attributes to spot the talent. But her tryst with gymnastics has made her someone special to analyze the flips and twists. However, on Sunday, she felt impressed by watching Brooklyn’s floor exercise. The essence of watching such a flawless performance on the mat went so deep that Kathy put a few words on her Instagram story, re-sharing a clip of Moors’ performance.

In her Instagram story, Kathy wrote, “Like a breath of fresh air. Always inspires. Never disappoints.” A perfect prize for a gymnast who has had similar walking in both elite and college gymnastics! Well, on Sunday, Brooklyn had UCLA Bruins’ support on social media. The fans lined up for her and Jordan Chiles, questioning the judging policy for not giving them the perfect ten in the floor exercise event. And lately, the Olympian earned such beautiful words from the master herself. On Sunday, Brooklyn Moors surely missed her fast, perfect ten in her collegiate years. But she earned tremendous compliments from someone who has two Olympic medals. Good day in the office, remember? However, Kathy has been a supporting voice for the gymnasts throughout the phase. On Sunday, she had good words for Brooklyn. Last year, she stood beside Jordan Chiles. Recalling the moment might be suitable.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the two-per-country rule fair, or does it rob athletes like Jordan Chiles of their dreams?

Jordan Chiles had once the voice beside her

On February 23, Kathy Johnson Clarke might not have missed watching Jordan Chiles’ effort on the mat. The UCLA junior is now on her NCAA route, helping the Bruins to take up the national gymnastics championship. After the Paris Olympics year, it is her fresh target. Nonetheless, in Paris last year, Jordan left her mark. In the team event, her special performance helped Team USA to reclaim the team gold medal in the women’s artistic gymnastics final in the Paris Olympics. But Jordan could have received chances in Paris to etch her name in the all-around event.

However, the International Olympic Committee’s tight rule made her miss the final berth. According to the two-per-country rule, Team USA had to stick to the plan of sending Simone Biles and Suni Lee to the final round. The team couldn’t send Jordan Chiles to the final to increase the chances of victory. Meanwhile, Kathy Johnson Clarke noticed the turn of events. She couldn’t remain still watching Chiles, missing the chance.

In July last year, she ridiculed IOC’s policy by penning on X, “Two-per-country rule is a double-edged sword, simultaneously slashing and dashing hopes and dreams while making way for other’s life-changing wishes to come true.” She also added, “The resilience, brilliance, and sportsmaship of all three Team USA all-around superstars—Simone, Suni, Jordan—were on full display for the world to see!” For Jordan as well, she had a few words to share. In the same post, she let the gymnast remember, “Stay on top of the world, Jordan, where you belong in all your unique glory! You ARE ‘that girl!’” Nine months later, she has stood for another gymnast. Brooklyn Moors is surely lucky.
