Jordan Chiles has gained a reputation for her expressive demeanor. Especially after her 2024 Olympics medal fiasco, she very well knows what it feels like when athletes get robbed of their accolades. “The decision feels unjust” were the words that described Chiles’ feelings when the medal was stripped from her. Now, she doesn’t want other athletes to suffer the same fate as hers. Especially when it comes to her gymnastics friends. So, when Jordan felt that Jade Carey got robbed of a perfect 10 in Oregon’s meet against San Jose State on Sunday, Chiles felt she deserved more. And she made it clear by expressing what should have been a perfect score for Jade Carey after her routine. But what did she say?

The Olympic gold medalist took on her ‘X’ handle to express her feelings over Jade Carey’s routine. She wrote, “I’m sorry but this was a 10 in my book 👏🏽👏🏽” Jade Carey was the MVP on Sunday as she earned 9.975 twice and paved her way to a 39.825 in the all-around against San Jose State. Carey is the No. 1 gymnast already in the United States with her performances this season. As soon as she finished her vault routine, it was clear from her face that she might have achieved perfection this time with her one-and-a-half Yurchenko. Her teammates and the commentators also thought that the perfect 10 was coming. Despite racking up an impressive seven 9.975s this season, Carey has yet to be awarded a perfect 10. Another reason for that could be stricter judging rules by the NCAA, which have decreased the number of perfect 10s a lot this season.

However, that hasn’t stopped her from continuing her remarkable run, securing her ninth all-around victory this year. Carey’s senior season has been nothing short of historic. The Phoenix native has now claimed the all-around and beam event titles in every single one of her nine appearances. Sunday’s meet was just another display of her dominance, and Jordan Chiles knew she was deserving. Carey opened with a 9.925 on bars, followed by a 9.975 on vault and a 9.950 on floor. She wrapped things up with another 9.975 on beam—proving once again why she’s at the top of her game.

At the midpoint of the 2025 NCAA season, Carey remains undefeated in all-around competition. By clinching every all-around title she has competed for this season, she is maintaining her lead in the national standings with a nearly 39.000 average. For the fourth consecutive week after the January 24 Auburn meet, she holds the top spot ahead of Florida Gators’ four-time world medalist Leanne Wong. Ironically, the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist on vault is ranked in the top 10 in every event except for vault, where she sits just outside at 11th.

At this point, it’s not just about whether Carey deserved a perfect 10 or not. It’s about recognizing excellence when it’s right in front of us. Gymnastics is a sport where subjective scoring plays a major role, and athletes like Carey, who consistently deliver near-flawless performances, shouldn’t have to fight so hard for that recognition. And Jordan Chiles is making sure that every story gets heard and her best friend gets the points that she deserves. But this isn’t the first time we saw a glimpse of their friendship.

When asked how they first became friends, Jordan Chiles reflected on their early days at the national team training camp in 2017. “Being the people we are, we wanted to make sure she (Jade) was comfortable and understood what was happening throughout national team camp. It can get very confusing and stressful, and it’s a different chapter of your life,” Chiles explained. Jordan Chiles and Carey made history together, helping Team USA secure the women’s artistic gymnastics team gold medal in the 2024 Olympics. Their friendship only grew stronger from there.

Jordan further added, “Being able to be there for her, I think that was the biggest thing. We’re all girls and trying to understand one another. We had different stories, but at the end of the chapter, we ended up still making an Olympic team…” At the core of their relationship, Chiles and Carey are more than just teammates or competitors—they are true friends who uplift each other. Their bond has withstood the pressures of elite gymnastics, proving that even in a sport defined by individual performances, camaraderie, and support can shine just as brightly as gold medals. Whether it’s on the Olympic stage or in NCAA competition, one thing is certain: Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey will always have each other’s backs.
