Home/Gymnastics

Jordan Chiles finally feels her prayers have been answered! After facing heartbreak in Paris, Chiles has shifted her focus to college gymnastics for now. And her primary goal is to lead the UCLA Bruins to the NCAA title. But she does not want to do it in an empty stadium. But despite Chiles’s star power, the Bruins have been experiencing a very small crowd. Just last Saturday, Chiles’ perfect 10 on uneven bars propelled the Bruins to a 197.550-194.850 victory over Maryland.

Unfortunately, only 7287 fans were cheering for UCLA at the XFINITY Center. And while that might look like a pretty big number, the total capacity of the arena was 18000! Thus, not even half the seats were filled. Taking note of the same, Jordan Chiles decided to address the issue immediately. Taking to her Instagram, Chiles made a plea to her fans. “Hello everyone, this is a PSA—please come and attend our home meet this Saturday the 25th at Pauley at 2 pm. @uclagymnastics would love all the support and want to give you guys an amazing show!! So come!!!”

And it immediately had an impact! While Chiles twisted and turned in the Pauley Pavilion, many fans turned up in her support. With cheers coming in at every second, the UCLA Bruins looked on point at their home. And what’s more? Chiles’ plea last time brought out the stars as well. The camera captured celebrities like NBA star Dwyane Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union. Apart from them, Taraji P. Henson and more also turned up to root for the Bruins. Naturally, such a response made Jordan’s mother extremely emotional.

Jordan Chiles’ mother, Gina Chiles, could not hide her joy. UCLA Gymnastics shared glimpses of the stars that attended the game on X. Chiles’ mother shared the post and wrote, “So awesome to see the support! Thank y’all for coming!!” And surely, with so much support coming in, Jordan Chiles and her girls did not disappoint. Chiles put on a scintillating show to get the joint-highest score of 9.925 on the vault along with Chae Campbell.

Keeping up with her splendid Olympic form, Chiles had a total score of 49.500. Such a strong performance easily saw the Bruins register yet another victory against Illinois. While Jordan Chiles and Co. recorded a total of 197.200, Illinois could only manage 194.750. Meanwhile, as the NCAA gymnastics season is in full flow, Jordan Chiles is having a lot going on outside the mat as well. With her fight for bronze not being over yet, Jordan Chiles received a major update on her case.

By now, everyone knows what happened with Jordan Chiles in Paris. While she received the shocking news of the Court of Arbitration for Sports revoking her medal, Chiles did not lose hope. Taking things up a notch, the Olympian took things to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court.

Now, in what was a shocker from Chiles, the Olympic medalist informed that, as per Law 360, Dr. Hamid D. Gharavi must not have been on the CAS panel that made the decision. This is on grounds of conflict of interest, as Dr. Gharavi had represented Romanian interests for years in the past.

“[T]he great media attention and public criticism of Dr. Gharavi and the CAS Ad Hoc Division illustrate how obvious the appearance of his bias was from the perspective of uninvolved third parties,” the translated version of her January 7 brief read. Chiles further added that Dr. Gharavi also represents Romania in as many as three investor-state arbitrations at the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes.

Thus, with such major information emerging, the evidence clearly shows that the Paris bronze medal controversy is far from over. It will now be interesting to see how things pan out in the future for Jordan Chiles.
