UCLA gymnastics made their presence felt in the Big Ten with a performance that turned heads. The Bruins showed they’re not to be messed with. Chiles is killing it with her routines, and the team’s drive has set the stage for what’s going to be one hell of a season.
The Bruins made their mark in a big way, matching their season-high team score of 197.550 and setting a new national best on the balance beam with a stunning 49.550. At the heart of it all was Jordan Chiles, who took the all-around title with a score of 39.500 and earned her ninth career-perfect 10 on the uneven bars—the first in the Big Ten this season. She smashed a near-perfect floor routine, pulling a 9.950, and Brooklyn Moors was right there with her magic. She matched Chiles on the floor and kept it solid all around. UCLA’s season kick-off was a bitter one to take in week 1, with the team fighting to get their groove back. Right off the bat, two big falls on the bars threw them off their game. In addition, the beam turned into a headache, with some mistakes piling up the frustration. Instead of letting it drag them down, the Bruins, with Chiles in the lead, took the loss as fuel to learn, grow, and come back even stronger.
