What is Aleah Finnegan’s Ethnicity?
Born to an American father and a Filipino mother, Aleah Finnegan had a choice. A personal choice. Her heart leaned towards her Filipino heritage, just like the eldest sister, Hannah. Representing the Philippines has been a matter of pride and honor for Aleah Finnegan, who took the mat at the Paris Olympics representing the Asian nation. She became the first Philippines gymnast in 60 years to compete in the Olympics.
Taking to Instagram on July 30, 2024, she gave a heartfelt tribute to everyone who made it happen. And her utmost gratitude to the nation of the Philippines for letting her live out her dream: “To GAP, POC, and the entire Philippine community, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to represent this beautiful country and accepting me with open arms. I am honored to wear this flag on my chest.”
The LSU gymnast’s mother, Linabelle, was born and raised in the Philippines before coming to the US to study when she was 19. However, she has made sure her daughters are connected with their cultural roots. That means celebrating the cultural holidays of the Philippines and enjoying the cuisine of the Southeast Asia nation. And with time, hearing her mother’s stories of the beautiful distant land, the 2024 WCGA All American on Floor became more enchanted with the Philippines. She even visited Manila, and that has deepened her love for her mother’s homeland.
