With the days passing by, the Winter Cup 2025 is coming closer. For year after year, the gymnastics contest has been regarded as the perfect season opener in elite form. Moreover, last year, the Winter Cup played a vital role, in setting the tone for the qualification scenario for the US Olympic gymnastics trials. Will there be any other spark this year? Just a day’s wait and things will be clear. But there’s a dark cloud already gathering at the corner. The dark cloud is of gymnasts’ injuries.

First, Kayla DiCello missed her turn to make a place on the list of senior levels in the contest. The world championship medalist has yet to recover from foot surgery. Almost a similar fate followed Tyler Turner. The 16-year-old had been raring to start her senior career in elite gymnastics. But in January this year, her world crumbled after she ruptured her Achilles. Meanwhile, another senior missed the train on February 17. The name? Gabrielle Hardie in the senior level. Are you expecting the list to end now? Wait, the gymnastics fans have just experienced another heartbreak.

15-year-old loses her chance to make a big at the Winter Cup

On February 18, USA Gymnastics’ X-handle dropped the update. The post’s caption claimed, “#WinterCup Update: Addy Fulcher has withdrawn due to injury.” She was listed to compete in the junior category. However, the reason behind her injury has yet to be known. And surprisingly, she was there for the February National Team Camp, showing her skills on the mat. Then what happened to her lately? The fans might be very interested in finding the answer to that. However, Addy Fulcher’s exit from the contest has dampened the mood. How so? Just look at her records.

Last year, Addy was present for the Winter Cup. Competing in the junior division, she stood second in the uneven bars event. In the all-around event, she faltered, though. She ended up claiming the third position. But in 2023, Addy Fulcher had the best attempts. Ultimately, she wore the crown in the all-around division in the junior category of the Nastia Liukin Cup.

Subsequently, she registered for the junior category in the Winter Cup 2023. Two years later, Addy Fulcher will not be there to grace the mat in the Winter Cup. A setback, for sure! However, the gymnastics fans have several takes on the matter. But the empathetic tone remains prominent.

The gymnastics fans cry, missing out on the phenom in the key contest

“Aw she was a real contenter for jr champ :(,” someone noted on Reddit. The lines had loads of truth. Reportedly, Addy Fulcher concluded the 2024 gymnastics season by having two bronze medals (uneven bars and all-around events) in the junior category of the US Championships. Her fiery form continued this year as well. The evidence was in the Vegas Cup National Qualifier which happened in January.

The final results of the contest announced her as the topper in the vault table and floor exercise events. In the all-around, her scores limped a bit and ended by giving her the bronze medal. And that has been her only contest completed so far this year. Facts like these are bound to break fans’ hearts, and those did.

Echoing that sentiment, someone wrote on Reddit, “It’s too early for the injuries!” Two months and the gymnastics talent is away from the mat! Meanwhile, someone wrote in the comment box, “Rumor is that this is not major for what it’s worth.” So? What does it signify? Another comment might help to shed light on the matter. The concerned comment read, “Honestly glad she is not pushing an injury. Hope this is a good sign.”

So, a sizeable chunk of gymnastics fans consider Addy Fulcher’s decision to withdraw from the Winter Cup as the right approach. They speculate that her condition might not be that bad. But her decision has come to give her a proper rest. Remember, in March, she might give a try to International Gymnix. Last year, she won a bronze medal at the balance beam event. So, the stakes will be high for her this year as well. In the meantime, someone had a key matter to discuss.

The comment came as, “It’s nice to see usag more transparent but i do wonder about the privacy of these athletes (especially the juniors). i would hate to get injured and have it posted immediately after. it’s nice when they share statements coming directly from the athletes but it feels a little off otherwise.”

Yes, Addy has not posted anything about her injury through her social media handles. So, is the situation different compared to what it looks like now? Time to add another justification? A simple wait for a few more hours might clear the picture. Till then, fans, keep putting your comments on the matter.
