In the short time Simone Biles has been on the global stage, she has already become one of the greatest. Some might even say that she is the undisputed best. And with seven gold medals across three editions, she has every right to back that claim. But behind every great athlete is an equally great coach. And for the acrobatic sensation, this was none other than coach Cecile Landi and her husband Laurent Landi. The duo has been the backbone of Simone’s gymnastic heights since 2017. Despite wanting to open a gym initially, they gave it up for Biles.
As Cecile said it best, “We could always open a gym later on, but coaching Simone is once in a lifetime.” It was right then that the legendary partnership was born. But like all good things, it came to an end as well. After 7 years and multiple golds, Cecile decided to part with the star at the end of the Paris Olympics. And her next destination? Being the head coach of the University of Georgia. Her former mentee is all in for this new change. And now it looks like Laurent is also welcoming a big change in his own life. And fans are visibly elated by this news.
The gymnastics world just got a fresh dose of tea, courtesy of a Reddit post spilling the details on Laurent Landi’s latest move! The post mentions, “Laurent Landi’s new gym venture. per Instagram page (Story that linked me to it shared by Cecile) “I’m looking forward to share my expertise with gymnasts, coaches, clubs, and federations around the world! DM me or email me at laurentlandigym@gmail.com for more information!”

Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Landi’s bio was flexing a seriously stacked resume, reminding everyone of his Olympic and World Champion coaching status. It read, “Olympic & World🥇coach for Team USA/Personal Coach: Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Madison Kocian, Alyssa Baumann, Joscelyn Roberson/Usag HOF.” And of course, fans wasted no time jumping into it, sharing their hot takes on his big career shift!
Gymternet gives their take on Simone Biles’ former coach’s new move!
One user was quick to jump in with, “This seems like the standard circuit coaches do when not actively employed by a gym (Brian Carey did something similar before OSU for example).” The fan was not wrong though, since Brian Carey, father of gold medalist Jade Carey, made some serious waves when he became the assistant coach for the Beavers. But then again, Carey is a member of the Elite Committee for the USA gymnastics so his credentials are attested by the world. But many other users also flocked to the comments.
One user pointed out, “Their daughter posted a video of her training and said something to the effect that she has been training at Georgia for the past month. So maybe they all moved now.” And hey, that’s interesting, right? On one side, we have Simone Biles’ former coach, Cecile, who is now in Georgia, leading the charge as co-coach. And now Laurent, her partner in coaching greatness, is diving into his new gig.
However, the twist is that Juliette Landi, their daughter, has been at Auburn University, being herself. But the other day, she posted a video on her Instagram of her practicing diving at the University of Georgia. Her caption was, “One month down in Georgia! Taking it all in here and trusting the process. Season 🔜.” Is this a sign of more shakeups to come in the future? Only time will tell.

Another user had a different view: So it sounds like he’s going to do the sort of Aimee Boorman (and others) route of doing clinics, working with other countries, and traveling around to coach and give seminars to other coaches.” This sounds reasonable, as Laurent might not be able to immediately join Georgia. So for the time being, Laurent might be looking for some more experience till the opportunity comes.

One user jumped in, saying, “Both Cecile & Laurent have world-class credentials being Simone Biles’ coach. I’m sure he’ll be getting lots of offers from around the globe. Heck, I was thinking the French Federation should be calling him for the mess they’ve made of their national team.”Another user quickly responded, “They’ll hire a permanent coach for that, not a consultant.”
So while there are many theories regarding Laurent’s next move, all fans can do at this point is wait. But given his impressive accolades and how he absolutely destroyed the French team in Paris last year, things look positive. Maybe we will see him with his wife again.
