It seems like just yesterday the US National Gymnast Leanne Wong signed with Florida in November 2020 when she went on to reveal her decision with a signature chomp. Since then, she’s become the heart of Gator gymnastics. Within weeks of her collegiate debut, Wong became the first freshman in the nation to score a perfect 10.0 when she nailed her uneven bars routine against Arkansas. By season’s end, she had claimed the SEC beam title.
If we consider that the freshman year was Wong’s introduction, then the sophomore year was her declaration. Double 10.0 meets became her specialty—the first gymnast in the nation to accomplish that feat in consecutive seasons. That sophomore campaign also saw Wong return to the international stage, helping Team USA capture gold at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool. And now, while the 2025 NCAA Championship has concluded, where Wong claimed the uneven bars title with a spectacular 9.9375, she also dropped a major update, which had fans reacting as well.
The pre-med student who dazzled fans with four All-America honors in NCAA competition during her freshman season, just posted a carousel of campus memories captioned “my final day of undergrad.” In the post, she shared multiple memories, one image showed her pride in orange and blue honor cords representing years of dedication both in academics and athletics. The iconic “F” embroidered on her stole speaks volumes about her Gator pride.

She posed throughout the campus. And guess what? She surely didn’t forget the beloved alligator statue. There was something magical about seeing her place her cap on Albert’s head. In another picture, she could be seen standing triumphantly outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, with her diploma in hand, and the Florida orange and blue colors visible on banners and signs surrounding the brick walkway.

Coming back to her season, it wasn’t the fairy tale ending she or Gator Nation dreamed of. While her Health Education and Behavior degree is now secured, her final gymnastics season came with a heartbreaking twist when Florida failed to reach the NCAA Championships after falling to Missouri and Oklahoma in the semifinals—their first time missing the championship meet since 2019. But boy, did she give the Gainesville crowd reasons to stand and cheer!
We mean, five WCGA regular-season All-America honors? That’s literally the maximum possible! And those five first-team NCAA honors after that jaw-dropping uneven bars performance? Pure magic.
Let’s be real—earning your fifth career perfect 10.0 on bars to claim an SEC title is the stuff of legends. And those moments at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Region when she basically owned every apparatus? Between her community service recognition, SEC Academic Honor Roll, and being among six finalists for the prestigious AAI Award, she’s leaving UF with 88 career event wins and a legacy.

Gymnastics fans get emotional as Leanne Wong gets ready to leave FSU
It still doesn’t feel real. One minute, Leanne Wong was that bright-eyed freshman flashing the signature Gator chomp on signing day in 2020, and now she is standing outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, diploma in hand, orange-and-blue honor cords around her neck, and that proud “F” on her stole.
Leanne Wong just dropped a heartwarming carousel of her “final day of undergrad” memories, and fans? Oh, they felt it. Big time. They wasted no time pouring their hearts out. “I’m not crying you’re crying!! Proud of you,” one fan posted, perfectly capturing that bittersweet ache we all feel.

Because sure, there’s so much pride in everything Wong has achieved- after her incredible senior season, think 29 career All-America honors (third-most in Gators history!) and nine perfect 10.0s. Nobody was ready to even think about a Leanne-less Gators’ squad just yet. “5th year us pleaseeeee,” begged another fan, still clinging to hope.
One fan even manifested the same: “5th year though?!?!? Transferring?!?!“ — throwing every possible wish into the universe, just in case. And who can blame them? With Wong’s jaw-dropping performances, who wouldn’t want one more year of magic?
It’s that tricky, emotional middle ground fans found themselves stuck in — heartbroken yet hopeful. One desperate plea said it all: “Noooo you can’t leave us without your gymnastics!” At the same time, some fans managed to find words to celebrate, even if it came with a lump in their throats. “So exciting, congrats! So sad at the same time,” summed up the rollercoaster of feelings. Adding to the mystery? Wong hasn’t officially closed the door on gymnastics. In simple conversational words, that sounds a lot like keeping the elite gymnastics door wide open.

With the current Code of Points, Leanne could be right there in the hunt for all-around, vault, floor (and maybe beam!) medals at 2025 Worlds if she goes all-in again. And honestly? The potential idea of a 2028 Olympics “United States Team ” consisting of: Simone , Jade, Joscelyn, Skye, Leanne, Jordan? — Sounds pretty dreamy, too. Well, let’s see how it transpires.
