“Liv’s knee is still an issue.” Coach Jay Clark‘s confession in February had sounded off alarm bells for the LSU fans. It explained Olivia Dunne’s intermittent presence on the NCAA mats this year. But to those who felt that was heartbreaking, you hardly knew what was about to hit you. The super senior was supposed to end her final year with a bang. But after missing key matchups against teams like Missouri, Alabama, and Oklahoma, it’s now time for another upsetting miss.

The last time we saw Olivia Dunne compete this season was in the meet against the Razorbacks. She’d bagged a decent 9.7 on the floor even though she had a stress reaction on her knee. However, since then she has missed several high points of the season. She couldn’t be around to celebrate LSU gymnastics’ first win against Kentucky in Lexington since 2017 or their season-high against George Washington. And now, ahead of their final home meet of the season against No. # 10 Georgia on Friday, March 7, Olivia Dunne has made an upsetting announcement. Here’s what it is.

On March 6, 2025, the LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne shared an update on her IG, saying, “Hi friends! Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with an avulsion fracture of my patella and will not be able to compete on senior night.” Well, penning this update was as shattering for her as it is for gym fans to read, “It absolutely breaks my heart to not get the opportunity to compete in the PMAC one last time.” Yes, this confirms that Dunne is suffering from a fracture and thus will not be present as the reigning champions perform at home for one last time this Friday.

However, how could she go out without thanking her purple and gold family? Thus, Olivia Dunne wrapped up her update with, “Tiger fans, you’ve been so good to me! Thank you for the endless support and as always Geaux Tigers! – Liv” Well, this feels like an absolute gut punch to all the LSU fans. Although it doesn’t leave us with much clarity if Dunne has any more meets in her for this season (we will have to wait for that update), it looks like her knee is not in good shape.

Well, this also means that Livvy’s final PMAC competition ended in January itself! And fans were absolutely clueless. Yes! Perhaps if only they’d known that the January 17 meet against the Florida Gators at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center would be the last time they’d see Olivia Dunne perform in the LSU leotard at home, the fans would have certainly cherished the moment to their heart’s satisfaction. However, many started to speculate that something was wrong. That’s because Livvy had only participated in the floor event, finishing with a 9.875, which was being attributed to her knee issues.

Well, this is certainly a shocker for many. Especially, since this news comes shortly after LSU head coach Jay Clark gave out a message for Olivia Dunne. And from his words, it had seemed like the possibility of her walking into the PMAC was not entirely ruled out. Here’s what he said.

LSU Head Coach’s support for Olivia Dunne ahead of collegiate career end

Yes, as harsh as it sounds, Olivia Dunne’s collegiate career is slated to end soon. And just ahead of that, Jay Clark attended a press conference where he voiced a heartfelt message for all his LSU seniors. He said, “We shouldn’t eulogize our seniors, we should celebrate our seniors.” This only makes sense, especially since we know how difficult this season has been for many of the senior-most like Haleigh Bryant and Olivia Dunne, both of whom have faced nerve-racking injuries.

However, Jay Clark had also sounded fairly positive. “I want them to walk in there Friday night and enjoy the whole scene, and let’s let’s make it a part, let’s make it a celebration of all that they have already accomplished and are continuing to push forward to accomplish even more,” This was a faint flicker of hope that Dunne could be one of those seniors walking in the PMAC on Friday. Alas, that’s no longer a possibility.

But yes, Olivia Dunne can certainly be present in the audience to cheer on her teammates and share those final few moments at home with her LSU side. However, this again is a wild guess! We do not know the exact severity of her fracture and will have to wait and watch till Friday if that happens. But do you all want to see it come true? Let us know in the comments below!
