Jonathan Owens never stops being Simone Biles‘ loudest cheerleader.  We saw this in Paris when he had to see her beam finals from home before he jetted off to France for the rest of the events. That’s when she’d unfortunately slipped off the apparatus, but even from a distance, he made sure to send her a message saying, “I’m still proud of her for all the work she’s done.” Now we’re not just talking about the distress days. But even when she wins, Owens is often the first to celebrate her, much like he showed up in Paris in a Team Simone t-shirt. And today, another example just dropped!

While work took Simone Biles miles away from the man, Owens is still lauding one of her latest gymnastics achievements. On April 21, Team USA announced that Simone Biles, the five-time all-around world champion, has been awarded the 2025 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award via an Instagram post. She did so by defeating the other nominees like Sifan Hassan, athletic phenom Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, etc. So what’s next?

Well, Owens reshared her achievement on his story and wrote, “And another one ❤️❤️❤️ so proud to call you my wife.” This is hardly the first time Simone Biles has won this very accolade. She’s won the same thrice in her career before, in 2017, 2019, and 2020. In fact, last year, she won the Laureus Comeback of the Year Award, for which, again, she’d flown down to Madrid, while Owens applauded her by sharing the post that Laureus dedicated to her on his story and adding multiple clapping hand emojis as a caption. This time, an elaborate message followed, too! Clearly, distance does not affect the love they harbor for each other.

While this is how Jonathan Owens celebrated her win, the award in itself left Simone Biles feeling ecstatic: “Coming out here and winning a Laureus Award, I feel like is the most prestigious athletic achievement that you can win. So it’s really exciting, it puts gymnastics on the map in a non-Olympic year, so hopefully we can keep doing that.”

Also, while Simone Biles is in Madrid for the Laureus World Awards, she made sure to make full use of it. Soaking up all the LALIGA Energy, Simone Biles reported straight from the Real Madrid vs. Athletic Club game yesterday, “My first soccer match.” But this time, she has swapped her usual travel partner, as Biles is out and about with her parents, Nellie and Ronald Biles, while Jonathan Owens remains back in the States.

Yes, she had to leave him behind, but hey, not without a parting message that shall keep the Chicago Bears’ safety smiling for days!

Simone Biles’ message for Jonathan Owens before she leaves town

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are hardly rookies when it comes to long distance. NFL duties, gymnastics endeavors, girls’ trips, and so much more often kept them away from each other. So much so that Biles once confessed, “Honestly, since my husband and I got married, we’ve been doing long-distance.” At this point, a veteran in it, she affirms, “Long distance isn’t easy.”

Maybe that’s why the two are so big on cherishing the smallest of moments. Just like recently, before flying out 5118 miles away to Spain for the Laureus World Sports Award, Simone Biles added an Instagram story with Owens that read, “Glad I got to see you for a short bit before jetting off to the airport,” on April 18. She also added, “So incredibly grateful for you ilysfm.”

And the next bit? Oh, she flew off while acknowledging, “I swear I never stop moving but I feel so blessed to travel the world for work and vacation” in one of her Instagram posts after that. Amid this, how do you think her husband’s shoutout may have made her feel? Butterflies or nostalgia? Let us know your guess below!
