The men?s golf competition at the Tokyo Olympics has come to a grand conclusion. The tournament was played over four days and Team USA member Xander Schauffele valiantly held on until the final hole to win gold by a one-stroke lead. This is a major triumph for Schauffele, but will this effort earn him any points in the Official World Golf Ranking and FedExCup standings?
The golf competition at the Olympics is somewhat different from regular tournaments. Outside of the Olympics, all professional golf tournaments offer prize money to the field. Tokyo Olympics 2020 did not do that, as only the three medal spots were up for grabs at Kasumigaseki Country Club.?
Furthermore, this also raises intrigue about yet another thing. If there is no prize money at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, what about Official World Golf Ranking points? Also, will the medal winners receive FedExCup points as well, just like regular tournaments??

Xander Schauffele will receive OWGR points, but not FedExCup points
Xander Schauffele enjoyed a thrilling finish to claim gold at Tokyo Olympics 2020. He was elated after making the winning putt and added to Team USA?s medal tally at the Olympic games. However, will he personally enjoy other benefits too??
Well, partially, he will. Schauffele?s biggest prize is the gold medal, of course. He won?t receive any prize money from the IOC, but the 27-year-old will be awarded 50 Official World Golf Ranking points. That is indeed a point in his favor.?
However, the gold medal and 50 OWGR points are the only perks of finishing first in the men?s Olympic golf competition. There will be no FedExCup points awarded to Schauffele or the other podium finishers at Tokyo Olympics 2020.?
Since the Olympics is all about representing your nation, there aren?t a lot of individual perks that come along with winning a medal. While the USA will appropriately reward Schauffele for his heroics, the IOC will only hand him the gold medal.?
The 50 OWGR points is an increase from 2016. The winner at Rio Olympics got 46 OWGR points, and the number has taken a small surge in 2021.?
