The qualifications are closed in both the men’s and women’s Olympic golf ranking. And USA has named four male golfers and four female golfers to represent the nation at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 games this summer.
Golf will return to the Olympics for the second time since 1904 after its first return in 2016. The event will have 60 players in the field for both men and women in a 72-hole stroke play format. Seven qualified American golfers out of the eight are playing in the Olympics for the first time.

As per the guidelines, the top four ranked American golfers for both men and women will qualify for the Olympics. So, according to the Olympic Golf Ranking, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau will represent the men. On the other hand, Nelly Korda, Danielle Kang, Lexi Thompson, and Jessica Korda will represent USA in the women’s contingent.
Apart from Lexi Thompson, no other golfer has ever played in the Olympics before. Lexi had a T19 finish in the 2016 Olympics. In 2016, Matt Kuchar had earned a bronze medal for the men’s team but unfortunately failed to qualify this time around.
Meanwhile, top-ranked American golfer Dustin Johnson has refused to compete in the Olympics. So the next alternative, Bryson DeChambeau, was picked in the side and will travel with the team for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
“Team USA will again have the largest contingent of players in the Olympic golf competition with eight of golf’s stars giving the United States a strong chance at reaching the podium,” USA Golf executive director Andy Levinson said.
The men’s competition will take place from July 29 to August 1, while the women will tee off from August 4 to August 7 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, Japan.
