Alysa Liu’s comeback falls just short
Alysa Liu, the youngest U.S. figure skating champion in history, made an impressive return to competition after a two-year-long break. Leading after the short program, Liu looked calm to reclaim her national title. However, small errors in her free skate, including a stumble during a layback spin, cost her the top spot at a score of 215.33. It was a nail-biting and the closest competition in recent figure skating history. According to NBC Sports, the winning margin of 1.46 points is the tightest since the current scoring system was instituted in 2006. Liu earned the admiration of fans and competitors alike, thanks to her strong performance and graceful attitude in defeat.
As this thrilling program ends we are heading towards World Championships. Both the skaters aim to build on their performances in Wichita.
