What an emotional roller coaster the 2024 Paris Olympics was! Although we would hate to choose our favorite among the many heartwarming moments, we might just have to. We of course remember Tara Davis-Woodhall‘s phenomenal performance at the Olympic games. The Texas native soared 7.10m to secure her first-ever Olympic gold medal. Historical as her win may be, it is not the emotional moment we are referring to. What happened after her glorious victory, was enough to make us smile from ear to ear.

After the long jumper soared high and clinched the gold medal, she ran to her husband, Hunter Woodhall, for an embrace. Our eyes were glued on the couple at that moment and for good reason! Just like Tara, Hunter Woodhall’s Olympic season was great from start to finish last year. The paralympic sprinter won his first gold medal at the 400m T62 event and a bronze at the 4x100m universal relay squad, as part of Team USA. Besides being an exceptional athlete, the 25-year-old is a pillar for Tara Davis-Woodhall through all odds. For the long-jumper, that embrace holds special value, as she confessed in a recent YouTube video posted on the couple’s YouTube channel- Tara and Hunter.

Tara opened up about the sudden waves of emotions that gushed in that moment.” I could only hear him, and it was the best thing in the entire world,” explaining the intimacy of the moment. “It was one of those moments where you just dream and you dream and you dream, and like that was beyond what I was dreaming,”.

“That hug that you guys all saw, it’s just years and years of hard work, tears, depression, anxiety, just fighting for this one moment that is so minuscule to others but huge in our lives,” Tara said while reflecting on all those hard work and the battles of mind and body has finally fruited. “It’s like one second in time that we have been working for. I mean, since 4 years, and he was like 11-10 since our entire life and the hug was just that emotion and the hard work we trained together.” For the long-jump champion, the gold medal pursuit was more than just an achievement, it was the result of a lifelong relentless battle they finally conquered.

Their hug although captured in a split second carried a lifetime of meaning, and will be remembered in everyone’s mind for ages!
