Kevin Durant and Team USA are well and truly back! If anybody doubted their intentions at this year’s Tokyo Olympics 2020, their second encounter against the Islamic Republic of Iran was a statement. Utterly dominating the team in red, USA sent a warning to all the other medal contenders. The match practically finished in the first half itself, with the USA acquiring a monumental 60-30 lead.
The unstoppable force named Damian Lillard
Starting for Gregg Popovich’s side in the attack was the ravishing duo of Damian Lillard and Devin Booker. Both these players are key features for their NBA franchises and possess some of the longest ranges seen in the game. The two were up and running in no time, particularly Lillard. The 31-year-old from California showed just why he is considered one of the league’s best guards.

Lillard played all over the zone and sent down multiple deflating threes. Iran had no answer to the attack of Lillard, which is one of the most technically sound attacks in the world. He finished with 21 points in the night. In addition, contrary to the first game against France, Lillard’s teammates also stood up. Irrespective of what the scorecard showed, Kevin Durant was in a much better rhythm today. The legendary Brooklyn Nets star was back to influencing how USA’s attack pans out.
It was the perfect culmination to a perfect day for Gregg Popovich and co. The team finished with as many as six scorers in the double digits. What’s even better is the fact that USA scored almost double what the Iranians managed. The final score read Team USA 120-66.
