Ever since Lindsey Vonn returned to the slopes, one thing has remained constant—her smile. Win or lose, her love for the sport shines through. In the women’s World Cup super-G, the 40-year-old skiing legend, now racing with a titanium knee, showed glimpses of her old speed, staying level with Federica Brignone early on. However, a bump in a left turn threw her off line, costing her crucial time. She fought to regain momentum but ultimately finished 16th, 1.11 seconds behind the winner. Despite the result, Vonn’s passion and joy for skiing remain as strong as ever. Not just that, she is on a mission to rub her infectious energy off on the rest, radiating positivity and optimism!

Just two days before the race, Lindsey Vonn shared a cheerful Instagram post from Norway, where she was seen skiing beautifully and smiling. She captioned it, “Having fun up here in Norway 🇳🇴!! It’s my first time on this track, and I’m having a blast getting to know the mountain. Experimenting every day with my equipment, and I think I’m making progress. Focused on trying to improve every day, even if it’s small. I’ll keep trying and keep smiling 😁 Tomorrow it’s time to race 💪🏻 bib #21 💃🏼.” Mental health-wise, the 40-year-old is making progress for sure. What she has gone through is unimaginable and not only has she made a return at 40, she is proving all her naysayers wrong who had qualms about her ability given her age.

While her result wasn’t what she hoped for, it’s clear she’s embracing the journey and staying motivated for what’s next. But who won the recent race?

Federica Brignone claimed victory in the event, narrowly defeating defending overall champion Lara Gut-Behrami by just 0.06 seconds. Despite feeling her run was far from perfect, Brignone’s aggressive skiing paid off. The win capped a strong weekend for the Italian, who also placed fifth and fourth in the previous two downhill races. Gut-Behrami, meanwhile, seemed poised to win but lost time after skiing wide into soft snow, only to make a late push that fell just short. This win just catapulted the 34-year-old into newer heights. The numbers do the talking!

With this victory, Brignone extended her lead in the overall standings to 251 points over Gut-Behrami. However, the Swiss skier still holds the top spot in the super-G rankings, 55 points ahead of Brignone. With three more super-G races remaining, including two in Italy, the battle for the title remains intense.

Over nearly two decades, she’s done it all—multiple overall World Cup titles, discipline-specific crystal globes, Olympic medals, and World Championship honors. Now, she’s back, chasing one last shot at Olympic glory.

For the Minnesota native, winning an Olympic medal wasn’t just another achievement—it was the missing piece. Back in July 2024, she reflected on just how much it meant to her. “Winning the Olympics is something very special,” she said. “It’s like the stamp of validation I’d been missing. I’d won everything—world championships, all the titles—but winning gold in North America really put me on the map in the U.S.” Now, she’s gearing up for 2026, ready to add one final chapter to her career. We are looking forward to her phenomenal run!
