Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Confirms Alexis Sanchez May Leave Manchester United In Transfer Window

Off late, things have not been looking too well for Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez. As it turns out, Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that negotiations are taking place with regard to the Chilean forward.

While the transfer window slammed shut in early August, Premier League clubs can still sell players. In fact, the buying period for the other European leagues will remain open until September 2nd.

Speaking in a press conference, Solskjaer revealed that Sanchez put in an impressive performance against Sheffield United. However, he admitted that the Chilean player may part ways with United this summer: “There are still talks with some clubs. But he played in that game, and he played well, so as I’ve said, he’s working hard, and let’s see in September what’s going to happen.”

Ever since he left Arsenal in exchange for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sanchez has lasted just 18 months at Manchester United. When he became a Red Devil, the 30-year old became the club’s highest earner. In fact, his salary dwarfs even some of the biggest stars in the team, like Paul Pogba, according to Kristof Terreur.

Since joined Manchester United, Alexis Sanchez has made 45 appearances and netted five goals and nine assists. This paltry performance is a far cry from the kind of expectations that United had for him when he arrived.

The Manchester Evening News wrote that Sanchez missed United training on Thursday morning. The reason behind the absence was that he was resolving a visa issue in London. The Chilean was gaining clearance ahead of an international friendly against Argentina in the United States in September.

Inter Milan are the most hotly tipped side to complete a loan deal for Sanchez, though BBC Sport’s Simon Stone reported the Nerazzurri aren’t willing to pay even half of his wages.

Sanchez hasn’t been involved in Solskjaer’s squads this season, but his display in the private fixture against Sheffield United indicates the club wants to keep the forward fit for a purpose.

A little more than one week remains for United to part ways with Sanchez if they wish to offload him, with the attacker looking unlikely to feature at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Interestingly, sports journalist, Gabriele Marcotti believes that Sanchez’s exit would not help United.

“I think United were left short-handed when Lukaku left and wasn’t replaced,” Marcotti said.

“And they will be even more so if Sanchez goes. He did look really good at the Copa America and I think that’s why [Inter boss] Antonio Conte thinks he can regenerate him.

“Martial and Rashford have both started [United’s first matches of the season]. They’re both starters. If one of them gets injured you have kind of got to fill two roles.
