Ranieri is a former Chelsea, Juventus and Monaco manager and has now paved his way back into the Premier League. Leicester sacked Nigel Pearson last month after a bust up, and have looked at a lot of options in Europe for a high profile replacement, having considered both Martin O’Neill and Guus Hiddink.

O’Neill was thought to be set for an emotional return to his old club over the weekend but some late problems occurred due to his controversial past. 63-year-old Ranieri became Leicester’s leading target and his appointment has now been confirmed.

The Italian has not worked in English football since 2004, when he was sacked by Chelsea. He was also dismissed from his last job with the Greece national team last year.

He said: “Since I left Chelsea I have dreamt of another chance to work in the best league in the world again.”
