World No.1 Novak Djokovic explains that his 2020 Tokyo Olympics participation depends on his results at the Wimbledon Championships next year and there could be a chance that the Serbian could sit out for the international sporting event, which is held in every four years.
Taking Roger Federer’s example, Novak Djokovic said in an interview that he could miss the 2020 Summer Olympics as Federer did at the Rio Olympics, three years ago. “There is a chance. For example, Federer did not play in Rio,” Djokovic said.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion further suggested that their season is long with the addition of new events like the ATP Cup and revamped Davis Cup in the tennis calendar and with the incoming of the Olympics next year, the Japan Open 2019 champion will have to 100% healthy to participate in the prestigious event next year.
He said: “Our season is long and we are full of new events. I will have to be healthy, my appearance in Japan will depend on Wimbledon results, the team, schedule, and my family.”
The world No.1 further added, “The surface suits my game and the venue is amazing. First of all, I try to be ready for the Tokyo Olympics in great shape. Last time I was injured & not in good condition. I’d like to reach the final, go further than Beijing.”
Novak Djokovic has never won an Olympic singles gold medal, however, the 32-year-old explained that the Olympics is special for him and he aims to win a gold medal for Serbia.

“Today the local people were carrying the Serbian flag. It’s amazing. Serbia is next to my name. Like the Davis Cup and Olympics, I am aware of being a representative of my native country in tournaments,” Djokovic concluded.
