Novak Djokovic Talks About the Symbols on his Shoes

Novak Djokovic has been partnering with the footwear brand ASICS, since 2018, and in an interview with them he revealed the meaning of the symbols that were printed on his shoes. According to Novak Djokovic, the shoes are the most important gear that a tennis players adorns apart from his racquet.

In an exclusive interview with the ASICS team, Novak Djokovic revealed the hidden meaning behind the symbols on his shoes.

“In terms of symbols on the shoes- well that’s something that I’ve had on my previous shoe for the last couple of years and those symbols are there for a reason”, said Novak Djokovic.

“Obviously one of them is my logo, that has been formed or created back in 2011…..not to get into the details…but there’s a lot of…there’s a whole I guess a logbook about you know what it represents”, said Djokovic with a smile. “But to me when I look at it- it represents originality and it reminds me to be original and to be my own best version of myself and not following any kind of other trends or copy anyone but just create my own character on success and be as good as i can be”, said the US Open champion.

“The other two symbols”, continued Novak Djokovic- “One of them- under the left shoe actually, is the Reiki symbol- which means all the energy of the universe is concentrated here and now, and it basically represents all the energy surrounding of the universe being present here and it reminds me to always be very conscious of the moment that I’m in…to try to always be as much as I can (in the) present and give myself 100% in whatever I do and obviously in this case its the tennis court because as an individual athlete you really don’t have anybody to rely on.”

“Except of-course your team…which is on the side of the court ….but nobody can substitute you if something goes wrong, so its why I think being as close to 100% focused and dedicated and present is crucial for success”, added Novak Djkovic.

“And the last symbol on the right shoe is a dove that obviously symbolizes  – peace, love and free spirit and you know all the values that I kind of stand for in life and at the same time it reminds me of someone that- I can say I idolized  and I do still idolize- Nikola Tesla”, said Novak Djokovic. “Who was a famous inventor and scientist and engineer from Serbia (Serbian-Amercian) and he’s someone that left a, you know, a great legacy behind him and many of his inventions are used today and of course serving a very(good purpose)…feel very proud of him and he used to have his favorite dove..so its kind of a connection with him..I feel his spirit is always there and because I’m someone that likes to you know constantly improve, innovate look for other things to experience, explore in life an I guess improving my own profession, but also outside so ….yeah those are the meanings of the symbols”, concludes Novak Djokovic.
