Novak Djokovic Lauds Diego Schwartzman’s Superhuman Effort Against Dominic Thiem at French Open 2020

World No.1 Novak Djokovic stormed into the semifinals of French Open 2020 after a difficult win over Pablo Carreno Busta. Far from his 100%, Djokovic was dealing with a few niggles. But the Serbian still had enough firepower to dispatch Carreno Busta. Djokovic will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals tomorrow.

The Serbian later looked upon Diego Schwartzman’s marvelous match against Dominic Thiem.

After his match, Djokovic commented on the other half of the draw. The second semifinal will be contested between Rafael Nadal and Diego Schwartzman.

Schwartzman reached his first Grand Slam semifinal after a marathon five-setter against Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. Djokovic also noticed and lauded the Argentine’s splendid victory.

“I saw him today in the locker room. I told him that I was so impressed with his win yesterday against Thiem. He deserves to be top 10 & deserves to win that kind of match more than many players because he works hard, he’s super nice person.”

Further, Djokovic expressed his happiness for Schwartzman. “I’m very happy for him. I’m proud of him. I wish him all the best. Definitely, he deserves to be where he is. He’s had plenty of success on clay courts, but I think over the years he also improved his game on hard court.”

This year’s French Open semifinal lineup has two first-timers. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman reached their first-ever French Open semifinal. And they will face two of the greatest players to hold tennis rackets in Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The short clay court season has been a boon for Diego Schwartzman. Commanding a great reputation on the tour for his gameplay, the Argentine peaked at the right time. Firstly, he reached the Italian Open final, which was held a week prior to the French Open.

En route to the final, Diego beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the quarterfinals. He lost out to Novak Djokovic in the final. In the French Open 2020, his marathon win against Dominic Thiem is now well documented and proved Diego’s clay court credentials.
