Ever since its announcement, the US Open has been a huge topic of discussion. Various players and coaches have given their opinion on the matter. The US is still seeing a significant surge in Coronavirus cases and players like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal still haven’t said much about their participation in the event.

The US Open has taken certain strict protocols to assure players of their safety. There will be no fans in the stadium. Regular checks and symptom monitoring will also be done. But the clay court succeeds the US Open and that is in Europe. Players might feel it safer to play in Europe as the cases there are significantly less.
Rennae Stubbs also spoke about this in her podcast ‘The Racquet Magazine’. She spoke about Nadal and Djokovic’s chances of participation. She mentioned that Djokovic has ordered tennis balls from the USTA and this might indicate that he is coming to the US.
“Novak apparently has ordered some tennis balls from the US Open, indicating that I would imagine he is coming to the US Open. Now that’s still not set and we will see what happens over the next couple of weeks with the cases and obviously New York is doing fantastically well,” Stubbs said.

Stubbs also acknowledged that Nadal might not come. He is the defending champion at the Flushing Meadows and so his absence will not be a good sign. But she is also excited as Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, and Naomi Osaka will be joining the draw.
“It is a little bit of worry when you see that Rafa is practicing on clay. So that is not a good sign that he is coming to the US Open. Serena obviously said she is coming, Bianca Andreescu will be coming, former champion Osaka will be coming. I am excited. I think that we are gonna have as good afield as possible,” she said.
